First Baptist Church of Grandview sits in the small Johnson County town of Grandview, Texas, where it has been a steady presence for generations of local families. The church runs two Sunday morning services that intentionally offer different worship styles, alongside a full slate of children's, student, and adult ministries, a community Children's Day Out program, and a major building project called "Making Room" that will add a new Family Life Center to the campus. Pastored since 2014 by Corey Cornutt, the congregation seeks to fulfill the Great Commission of Jesus Christ in the context of Grandview, describing its mission in three movements: knowing the love of Jesus, growing in love toward Christ and each other, and showing that love to the wider community.
Two Sunday Services, One Welcoming Family
The church gathers on Sunday mornings at 8:30 AM and 11:00 AM, with a Sunday School hour at 9:45 AM between them. The early service leans traditional, led through hymns and praise choruses. The later service is contemporary, anchored by a full worship team. Both services include a biblically based sermon the church describes as relevant, encouraging, and challenging. Congregants dress casually and comfortably at either service, and a privacy room is available for parents who need a quieter space. The sound of children in the sanctuary is welcomed, not discouraged.
Sunday School and Grow Groups
Between services at 9:45 AM, the church runs an age-graded Sunday School program for children and youth alongside six adult classes. Re|Rooted, taught by Brad Quisenberry, gathers young married couples in Room B of the Mission Building. The Neighborhood, taught by Andrew Rogers, is mostly married couples with school-aged children and meets in Room A of the same building. The Gathering 2, led by Airemy Caudle, is for married couples with middle-school-aged children and older and meets in the choir room. The Women's Class, led by Amy Quisenberry, meets in the Library. The Pathfinders' Class, led by Jon West, draws mixed-age adults to the front section of the Fellowship Hall. The Collectibles Class, led by Dave Thomas, is for mixed senior adults in the back section of the Fellowship Hall.
Outside the Sunday morning hour, Grow Groups meet in homes throughout Grandview and the surrounding area on different days of the week. Anyone interested can call the church office to be connected with one.
FBC Kids: Birth Through Fifth Grade
FBC Kids, the church's children's ministry, is led by Lindsay, who joined the staff in February 2022 after twelve years in public education. The ministry's purpose is to help children develop a dynamic relationship with Jesus Christ through small group Bible study, fun times with their peers, camps, overnight retreats, and Vacation Bible School.
Nursery care is available at both Sunday services. During the 8:30 AM service, the nursery welcomes children from 6 weeks to 5 years old. During the 11:00 AM service, it serves children from 6 weeks to 3 years old, and after the music portion of that service, children from 4 years old through 2nd grade are released to children's church for an age-appropriate Bible lesson. The nursery is down the long hallway east of the Sanctuary.
Wednesday nights at 6:30 PM bring age-graded classes for children from babies through 5th grade, with a focus on the great stories of the Bible and how they apply to daily life. The Children's Ministry also offers occasional Parents Night Out events, when parents can drop off their children for a Friday or Saturday evening at a cost of $10 per child. Reservations are due by 4:00 PM the Wednesday before the event.
Julie, who has been a fixture at the church since 1999, became Childcare Coordinator in 2013 after first joining the staff in 2007 as a nursery attendant. She is one of the longest-tenured staff members at FBC Grandview.
FBC YTH: Students on Wednesday Nights
The student ministry, FBC YTH, gathers Wednesday nights at 6:00 PM for grades 6 through 12. Students share a meal, study scripture, and grow in fellowship. The ministry's stated goal is to connect students to God through faith in Jesus through outreach events, worship services, and discipleship classes.
Wednesday Nights for Adults
Wednesday night is the centerpiece of the church's adult discipleship week. A community meal is served in the Fellowship Hall at 6:00 PM during the fall and spring school semesters, with a suggested donation of $3 per plate and a cap of $12 per family. Four adult groups meet at 6:30 PM:
- The Men's Group, currently led by Tucker Etheridge, meets in the Mission Building, which sits north across Main Street from the main campus. Members enter through the door on the left.
- The Women's Group, currently led by Cheryl Cornutt, meets in the same building through the door on the right.
- The Young Couples' Group, led by Jake and Melody Stroder, meets in Room 122, the Conference Room across the hall from the Fellowship Hall.
- A Prayer Meeting, open to anyone, is led by Dave Thomas in Room 106.
On any given Wednesday the men and women might be diving into a Bible study, doing something fun, or simply hanging out together.
Primetimers, Moms, and Marriage
Senior adults have a robust ministry of their own. On the fourth Monday of every month, the Primetimers gather for a luncheon with the pastor. The gathering might be a potluck, a meal the pastor has cooked himself, or a trip to a local restaurant. Day trips on the church bus are a regular rhythm, ranging from presidential libraries to new restaurants to try. A group of senior women meets in the Fellowship Hall every Monday and Wednesday morning at 9:00 AM, and on Thursday evenings at 6:00 PM, Primetimers gather to play dominoes, with Mexican Train a frequent feature.
The Moms ministry, led by Amber Bradshaw, meets on the second Thursday of every month at 10:00 AM at Entwined Grounds in Grandview. Mothers of children of all ages are invited, kids are welcome, and refreshments are available for purchase. Re|Engage is a marriage ministry designed for couples at every season and circumstance.
Children's Day Out
Beyond its Sunday and Wednesday programming, the church runs a community Children's Day Out (CDO) program for Grandview-area families. Ashli, who became CDO Director in 2022, leads a team of teachers who introduce the program's youngest students to early childhood education. Courtney Firebaugh, now the church's Assistant Worship Director, taught science and music to CDO students from 2023 to 2026, meeting countless Grandview families through the program.
Making Room: A New Family Life Center
The church is in the early stages of "Making Room," a multi-phase building campaign anchored in its master plan. Phase 1 will bring a new Family Life Center to the campus, with subsequent phases looking years into the future. The campaign is built around the same three-fold rhythm the church repeats throughout its ministries: know the love of Jesus, grow in love toward Christ and each other, and show that love to the wider community of Grandview. Gifts to the project can be directed through the church's online giving portal under "Making Room/New Construction."
Worship, Media, and Discipleship Resources
Sermons are available on the church's YouTube channel and as a podcast on Apple Podcasts, with devotionals produced through Sermon Send. RightNow Media is offered to every member of FBC Grandview as a free discipleship resource, with a wide library of Bible studies and training videos available on demand. The church also publishes a monthly newsletter that walks through the life of the congregation, and a video series called "A Better View" highlights people throughout Grandview who are making the town a better place to live. Counseling referrals are available through grandviewcounseling.org.
The Staff
Senior Pastor Corey Cornutt has served FBC Grandview since September 2014. A graduate of Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, where he also earned a Master of Divinity through Logsdon Seminary, Corey grew up in West Texas on a small six-man school campus surrounded by cotton fields. He and his wife Cheryl, his high-school sweetheart, have three sons: Corban, Canon, and Cai.
Lindsay serves as Minister to Children and Families, a calling she embraced after twelve years in public education, where she taught first grade and then spent ten years in physical education. She and her husband David have three children, Weston, Lyla, and Eleanor, and have been part of FBC Grandview since 2020. Courtney Firebaugh, a Baylor graduate and former Teach for America corps member, serves as Assistant Worship Director. Julie has been on staff since 2007 and is one of the longest-tenured members of the team. Ashli directs the Children's Day Out program, and a full-time church secretary, who moved to Grandview from Ontario, Canada in 2022 with her family, supports the office.
