A Wesleyan Home on 8th Street
Faith United Methodist Church sits on 8th Street in downtown Farmington, Minnesota, where it has long served as a United Methodist congregation shaped by Wesleyan tradition. The church's motto - be yourself, know you are valued, find your people - captures the spirit of a community that opens its doors to neighbors for worship, fellowship, and service.
Sunday Morning at 10:00
Worship begins at 10:00 AM each Sunday and runs about an hour. The service is mostly traditional, with choir, piano or organ, and liturgy, along with a Faith for Kids time led by the pastor from the front. Children are welcome in worship; activity bags are available, and a nursery is provided for babies and small children. Communion is shared on the first Sunday of every month, and the church practices Open Communion, inviting all who wish to share in the Lord's Supper. Treats follow the service each week, and for those who cannot attend in person, the service is livestreamed on Facebook and YouTube.
Wesleyan Beliefs, Open Questions
Faith Church joins the United Methodist Church in making disciples of Christ for the transformation of the world. The congregation describes itself as Wesleyan, reading scripture in its context and living out the message of Jesus through study and action. Members believe scripture teaches that all people are loved, valued, and respected, and that gathering together helps people thrive spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically. The church aims to be a safe place for questions, doubts, and growth in faith, and seeks to bring people together rather than create division.
Pastor Christy and the Faith Team
Pastor Christy Schally was appointed to Faith in July 2026 and brings nearly 40 years of ministry experience. She values inclusion, teaching scripture, proclaiming the Good News of Christ, family, joy, and being in community. Kathy Gunderson has served as the church's organist for more than 30 years, coordinates the Clothed in Faith clothing closet, and is active in the Women of Faith group. She also co-founded the Mountain Dulcimer Club in Farmington, performs with the South Metro Chorale, and teaches piano out of her home. Melissa serves as Office Administrator, supporting the life of the congregation day to day.
Bunco, Clothing, and Women of Faith
The church hosts a free community Bunco night on the first Friday of each month, open to anyone in Farmington or the surrounding area regardless of faith background. The goal is fun and connection rather than persuasion, and snacks and beverages are provided, with small prizes for category winners. The Clothed in Faith clothing closet, coordinated by Kathy Gunderson, extends the congregation's outreach to neighbors in need of clothing. A Women of Faith group offers fellowship among the women of the church, and the church's outreach is rooted in the Wesleyan call to serve the community in practical ways.
