An Ever-Expanding Vision on D Street
Faith Community Church sits at 355 D Street in Fillmore, California, where it has long been a steady presence in this Ventura County town. Members and visitors gather each Sunday morning for worship at 10:00 a.m., with the service also carried on the church's YouTube channel for those who cannot attend in person. The congregation describes itself as an ever-expanding, multicultural ministry to children, students, and adults, anchored by a simple mission: to lift up Jesus Christ, equip His people, and mobilize them to reach the unchurched.
What Faith Community Church Believes
The church's statement of faith is rooted in classic evangelical Christianity. Members affirm one God - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - who created all things and has purposed from eternity to redeem a people for Himself. They believe that human beings, fallen through Adam and Eve, are sinners by nature and by choice and can be restored only through the saving work of Jesus Christ, whose atoning death and bodily resurrection constitute the only ground for salvation.
The Bible is held to be the verbally inspired Word of God, without error in the original writings, and the ultimate authority for faith and life. Two ordinances are observed: baptism and the Lord's Supper, which visibly express the gospel though they are not the means of salvation. The church confesses the personal, bodily, and premillennial return of Jesus Christ, looks for the resurrection of the dead, and speaks of eternal blessing for the believer and eternal conscious punishment for the unbeliever. Christian living, in their teaching, joins justifying grace with sanctifying power: loving God supremely, loving others sacrificially, caring for the poor, pursuing justice for the oppressed, and making disciples among all people.
Sunday Morning Worship
Worship at Faith Community Church is led by a team the church describes as called rather than volunteered. Musicians gather each Sunday to lead the congregation in song before the sermon, joining voices across generations. Children's Church runs at the same 10:00 a.m. hour. Children begin in the sanctuary with their families for the opening songs, then are dismissed to their classrooms before the sermon. Parents of babies are welcome to keep their child with them or drop them off in the Littles room for the remainder of the service.
Children's Ministry
Children from three months old through fifth grade are taught using the Gospel Light curriculum, which walks through the attributes of God, Bible stories, prayer, and practical application. Students memorize Bible verses and the books of the Bible and learn how to read and use their Bibles. Questions about the program go to Children's Director Terri Coert, reached through the main church number or by email.
Students: Middle School and High School
Faith Community Church runs two weekly gatherings for students, both meeting at 355 D Street. High School Youth Group meets on Tuesdays from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., combining worship, Bible teaching, and fellowship. Junior High (sixth through eighth grade) meets on Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., with three stated purposes: sharing Jesus, providing a safe atmosphere, and having fun. Both groups are led by Youth Pastor Donovan Mitchell.
Young Adults: The Fireplace
Young Adults is a ministry for those roughly 18 to 30 years old and meets on Mondays from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The group, which uses the name The Fireplace on social media, gathers for fellowship and study in the same building at 355 D Street.
Men's and Women's Ministries
The Men's Ministry gathers men for fellowship, prayer, and the study of Scripture, inviting them to support one another as they grow in Christ. The Women's Ministry focuses on helping women deepen their relationship with God and live out their purpose, grounded in prayer, fellowship, and service. Both groups run on a regular rhythm, with calendars published through Church Center.
Life Groups
Life Groups are the church's midweek Bible study community. Separate groups for men and for women meet throughout the week, offering deeper discussion and fellowship in smaller settings. The groups are described as a place where everyone, whether new to Bible study or seasoned, can be strengthened in their walk with Christ.
Support Groups
Faith Community Church offers a support group for those walking through seasons of loss. Led by Dr. Paul Lenderman, the group provides a safe, compassionate setting for processing grief, managing feelings, and connecting with people who understand. There is no fee, and all are welcome.
Leadership and the Church Center App
The church is served by Senior Pastor and Elder Dion Brooks, along with Elders Drew Ferguson, David Coert, and John Crisp, and Patrick Zavala as elder in training. Donovan Mitchell serves as Youth Pastor, Robert Rodriguez directs the preschool ministry, Loni Larson serves as Director of Children's Ministry, and Terri Coert leads the children's program. Day-to-day connection runs through the Church Center app, where members can give online, register for events, and check children into their classes. Giving is also received during Sunday services by cash or check.
