From a 1981 Living Room to the Word Dome
Faith Chapel was founded in 1981 by Mike and Kennetha Moore with a vision to help people grow through God's Word and reflect Jesus in every area of life. More than four decades later, the church they started now meets at two campuses, broadcasts services online, runs a community center and a homeless outreach facility, and has passed leadership to the next generation. In January 2023, Mike Moore passed the baton of leadership to his son, Pastor Michael K. Moore, who now serves as Lead Pastor alongside his wife, Michelle, and their three daughters, Meeghan, Margeaux, and Maiki Rose. Mike and Kennetha remain connected to the church through Mike Moore Ministries, the teaching and publishing arm that has carried the church's signature message - "The Word of God is the Answer" - far beyond Birmingham for more than forty years.
The church describes itself as a non-denominational "HOW TO" Bible-teaching church, and that phrase captures what members and visitors are most likely to notice on a Sunday morning. The teaching team is known for messages that walk through the Bible in practical terms, and the lead pastor has described the work of the church in a single sentence: to Grow People Up Through God's Word to Reflect Jesus. That statement doubles as the church's mission and vision, and it shows up on signage, on the livestream, and in the way ministries are organized.
Two Campuses, One Mission
Faith Chapel meets at two locations. The Birmingham campus sits at 100 Mike Moore Blvd. in the western part of the city, where the address itself is a tribute to the founding family. The Birmingham location is built around two connected spaces: the Word Dome, a 3,000-seat monolithic dome that houses the main adult worship service, and The Bridge, the family-friendly community hub next door. The Columbus, Georgia campus meets at University Hall on the campus of Columbus State University, 4225 University Ave. Tyrone Fornest serves as the Columbus Campus Pastor, working alongside the same teaching team that serves Birmingham.
On Sundays, the Birmingham adult service begins at 10:00 AM CT and the Columbus service begins at 11:30 AM ET. Each gathering runs about 85 to 90 minutes, with a casual and friendly environment, contemporary worship music, and enhanced audio and visual elements. The Word Dome in Birmingham has been called the central and largest of the two locations, and on most Sundays the same teaching team member preaches at both campuses through the rotation of messages archived as "HOW TO" teachings.
HOW TO Teaching and a Belief in the Word
Faith Chapel's statement of belief is built around the same phrase that runs through its teaching. The church teaches that God's Word is the answer to life's questions, circumstances, and challenges, and it asks its people to learn how to apply Scripture to daily life so they can experience the supernatural power that comes from doing so. The church's values are arranged into four short statements: We Value The Word of God, We Value Teamwork, We Value People, and We Value Execution. Each value is paired with a self-check question that volunteers and staff are encouraged to ask themselves during the week.
The church also teaches a charismatic-friendly view of the Christian life, summarized as growth in Character, Power, and Influence. Character means becoming more like Jesus by displaying love, integrity, and truth. Power means welcoming the Holy Spirit into daily life and walking in God-given spiritual authority. Influence means sharing Jesus at home, in school, at work, and in the world. Water baptism is taught as an important step of obedience that follows salvation, and the church explains its meaning from passages such as Matthew 28:19-20, Romans 6:4, and Colossians 2:12. Baptism is offered at both campuses and through an at-home baptism process for those who live outside the two cities.
The Bridge: Life Beyond Sunday
Across the parking lot from the Word Dome, The Bridge functions as the church's weekday gathering place. The church calls it a vibrant, family-friendly hub where people gather, laugh, and build relationships all week long. Inside, members and neighbors find bowling lanes, basketball courts, a full café, and a kids' play zone. Several weekly and monthly church activities - including Student Ministry gatherings, the Growth Track, and Birmingham's First Wednesday night for students - take place at The Bridge, and it is also where the Family Ministry check-in process begins each Sunday morning.
Volunteer teams meet, train, and host events at The Bridge throughout the week, and the building doubles as a drop-off point for the Faith Chapel Care Center's donation drives, which support the church's homeless outreach in downtown Birmingham. The Bridge, in other words, is where the church's weekday ministry, family ministry, and outreach programs converge outside the Sunday worship gathering.
Family Ministry from Crawling Babies to High School Seniors
Faith Chapel's Family Ministry is organized around the conviction that kids and students can grow in faith just like adults. The ministry is built for "every child from crawling babies to high school seniors" and runs three coordinated programs: Faith Chapel Kids for children from walking toddlers through 5th grade, Faith Chapel Students for 6th through 12th graders, and a Family Worship rhythm that brings families together in the main sanctuary on selected Sundays each year. Karen L. Malone serves as Senior Director of Family Ministry, and Monteray Anderson leads the Faith Chapel Kids team.
On a typical Sunday, Faith Chapel Kids meets at the Birmingham campus at 10:00 AM CT and at the Columbus campus at 11:30 AM ET. Parents check in starting 30 minutes before service. Children through 5th grade receive a matching name tag and pickup code for safety, while teens in grades 6 through 12 receive a name tag only and do not need a matching pickup code. The Family Ministry team supports parents at home with a monthly newsletter, family activity guides, an "I Am" identity curriculum, age-appropriate confession guides, a parent cue system, and on-demand video lessons for preschool and elementary kids. The Birmingham and Columbus Kids Facebook groups and the Faith Chapel Family Ministry YouTube channel extend the same material to families who cannot attend in person.
On Family Worship Sundays, kids and students sit with their parents in the main sanctuary instead of attending their age-level program, and on-demand services are always available as a backup. Parents can also sign their child up for child dedication, a moment in which parents publicly commit to raising their child in a Christ-centered home surrounded by prayer, love, and support.
Faith Chapel Students and First Wednesdays
Faith Chapel Students describes its ministry with the line "Students aren't just the future, they're the NOW." The student ministry is built around high-energy worship, relevant teaching, and small groups where the conversation goes deeper than surface level. At the Birmingham campus, students have their own worship experience every Sunday morning at 10:00 AM CT, and at the Columbus campus, students join the main adult service in the sanctuary at 11:30 AM ET, gather for Teen Time every third Sunday, and meet for monthly in-person fellowships.
First Wednesdays is a monthly themed night that runs from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM at The Bridge in Birmingham and at Dave & Buster's Columbus on Whittlesey Blvd. The night is described as the easiest place to invite a friend, find a group, and grow faith in a setting that feels real. The student ministry also runs a Wednesday night small group rhythm in Columbus and connects with parents through the Faith Chapel Students Instagram and Facebook channels. A college fair and seasonal services fill out the student calendar alongside the regular Sunday and First Wednesday rhythm.
The Care Center in Downtown Birmingham
Faith Chapel's most visible community ministry is the Faith Chapel Care Center, located at 921 2nd Ave N in downtown Birmingham, a few miles east of the Word Dome. The Care Center is open Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM and offers shower facilities for both men and women, free laundry services on a first-come, first-served basis, a computer room, weekly ministry, medical services, and referral services. The Care Center also collects material donations of travel-size hygiene items, socks, underwear, athletic shoes, and snack items that are easier for people experiencing homelessness to carry. The center is supported by a Care Center team of volunteers, by monetary giving through the church's BHM Outreach fund, and by an ongoing partnership with the Bridge Team on the Birmingham campus.
Growth Track, Groups, and Water Baptism
Faith Chapel's Growth Track is the structured path the church uses to help newcomers connect, discover, serve, and grow. It is built in four steps. Step One, "Who is Faith Chapel?," introduces the church's history, beliefs, and governance. Step Two, "Discover My Unique Design," walks people through spiritual gifts and personality assessments. Step Three, "Join the Team," connects those gifts to volunteer opportunities. Step Four, "Develop Your Leadership Potential," is the ongoing leadership development course. A condensed online experience called Growth Track Express covers all four steps in a single meeting for people who want to move quickly toward serving.
Small groups, called Faith Chapel Groups, are the church's primary vehicle for community outside Sunday services. Groups meet for six to thirteen weeks, often weekly or biweekly, and include options for singles, couples, career interests, hobbies, and shared life stages. A separate set of Student Groups meets during the Sunday services for 6th through 12th graders, with gender-specific discussion and a curriculum provided. Water baptism is offered at both campuses, and the church has also published an at-home baptism process for anyone who lives outside the Birmingham or Columbus area, with step-by-step instructions for the candidate and the person performing the baptism.
Care Through Life's Milestones
The church's Care department walks with people through the major events of a life lived in faith. Weddings are coordinated through a dedicated Wedding Director, with members able to book up to twelve months in advance and non-members up to nine months in advance. Weddings and rehearsals are not scheduled on Sundays or on a list of major holidays, and alcohol, smoking, and childcare are not part of the wedding package. Funerals are held at the Birmingham campus only, and the church maintains a Bereavement Support Small Group that meets virtually on the first and third Tuesdays of the month from 6:15 PM to 7:15 PM CT. Child dedications, water baptisms, and home dedications and blessings round out the care offerings.
The Benevolence Ministry provides short-term financial assistance to members in crisis. Applicants must have been Faith Chapel members for at least three months, be tithing, be able to document a sudden loss of income, complete a Benevolence Application, and be willing to meet with a Benevolence Team Member and possibly attend financial literacy classes. The church's Care Resources page adds a Christian counseling referral list, a curated library of books on anxiety, depression, fear, and family, and a set of recorded messages titled "Weep Not" and "Moving On" for people walking through grief.
Watching, Giving, and Staying Connected
Sunday services are livestreamed at 10:00 AM CT on the Faith Chapel app and Facebook Live, and they are archived on YouTube for on-demand viewing. The Miracle Room, a monthly Friday night prayer gathering, is also livestreamed from the Word Dome at 7:00 PM CT. Visitors and members can give online, by text-to-give, by mail, or through drop boxes at both campuses, and giving questions are handled through the contributions email address. The church's social channels - Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube, and Threads - all operate under the @faithchapelbham handle, with a parallel set of channels for the Columbus campus and a dedicated channel for the student ministry.
For a first-time visitor, the simplest path is the Plan Your Visit page, which collects contact information, allergies, and family details in advance. The church's own advice for that first Sunday is as direct as its teaching: come as you are. The pastor and ministerial staff typically dress casually, the music is contemporary, the message is practical, and the goal is to help people take the next step - whether that step is baptism, joining a group, signing up for Growth Track, volunteering on a team, or simply walking through the door again next week.
