A Baptist Congregation on Marlborough Avenue
Fairview Heights Baptist Church gathers on a single campus at 1215 N Marlborough Avenue in Inglewood, California, where a parking lot off Hargrave Street and another along the sanctuary both welcome Sunday morning visitors. The church's stated mission is the advancement of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ through public worship, Gospel preaching, consistent Christian living, personal evangelism, missionary endeavor, and Christian education. Its motto, "Reaching New Heights for the Glory of God!," sits beneath the name on its front page.
The Lord's Day: Worship, Word, and Children's Church
Sunday School meets at 9:30 a.m., followed by the Lord's Day Service at 11:00 a.m. Ushers and greeters help families settle in, and the worship itself blends hymns, the public reading of Scripture, choir and praise team selections, and an expository preaching message from Senior Pastor Dr. Paul Felix. Services typically run between an hour and a half and an hour and forty-five minutes. Children up through sixth grade are dismissed mid-service for Children's Church, and a cry room on the second floor is available for families with infants and young toddlers.
Dress on Sunday morning ranges from casual or business casual to business professional, with midweek services typically very relaxed.
Wednesday Nights: Bible Study and Awana
Wednesdays are a busy night on the Fairview Heights campus. Awana clubs for children and youth meet at 6:45 p.m., and an adult Bible study gathers at 7:00 p.m. Awana (which stands for "Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed" from 2 Timothy 2:15) is a Scripture-memory program for preschoolers through high schoolers, with online registration, parent guides, memory verse calendars, and leader training resources available to support families and volunteers.
A Spanish-Speaking Ministry
Fairview Heights maintains a parallel Spanish Ministry led by Pastor Adrian Quatela, with its own deacon board (Cesar Torres, Arturo Vengas, and Cecilio Rajpop). The Spanish congregation meets for Escuela Dominical at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, holds a Servicio de Adoración at 11:00 a.m., and gathers for a Servicio de Oración on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. The ministry aims to reach and serve the Latino community, encouraging believers, nurturing Christlike character, and proclaiming the Gospel through the exposition of God's Word.
Discipleship for Young Adults
For young adults ages 18 to 35, the church offers a Bible study on the second and fourth Fridays of each month from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The group digs into in-depth study of Scripture with practical application, alongside periodic fellowship gatherings, and is built around discipleship and mutual encouragement through life's challenges.
Basketball Outreach on Sundays
On the first and third Sundays of each month from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., the church opens its gym in partnership with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes to local students in grades 8 through 12. Players are invited onto the court and into conversations about following Christ, with the stated aim of proclaiming the Gospel among youth in the surrounding community.
Music in Worship
The Music Ministry prepares music each week for the Lord's Day services. The Adult Choir sings on the first Sunday of each month, and the Praise Team leads worship on the other Sundays. Membership in the choir and praise team is open to confirmed members of the church.
Becoming a Member
Those interested in joining Fairview Heights begin by submitting a membership application. Candidates are then interviewed by the deacons and invited to a New Members Class, which meets roughly once a month on a Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in a classroom on campus. After completing the class and accepting the membership requirements of the church constitution, new members receive the right hand of fellowship.
What the Church Believes
Fairview Heights holds the Bible to be God's infallible, verbally and plenarily inspired Word, and treats it as the supreme authority in all matters of faith and practice rather than recognizing creeds issued by councils. The statement of faith affirms belief in one God existing eternally as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; the deity, virgin birth, sinless life, atoning death, bodily resurrection, ascension, high priestly intercession, and visible return of Jesus Christ; the work of the Holy Spirit in conviction, regeneration, sanctification, and sealing; salvation by grace through faith in Christ; and the local church as a gathering of regenerated, immersed believers.
The statement of faith also articulates Baptist distinctives, including the priesthood of all believers, regenerate church membership, believer's baptism and the Lord's Supper as symbolic ordinances, the autonomy of the local church, the separation of church and state, and a worldwide program of missionary endeavor. Marriage is defined as a lifelong covenantal union between one man and one woman, and the statement affirms that sexual relations are reserved for that union.
The Leadership Team
Dr. Paul Felix serves as Senior Pastor. He holds a B.A. from the University of Redlands and graduate degrees from Talbot Theological Seminary and The Master's Seminary (M.Div., Th.M., and Th.D.). Before coming to Fairview Heights, he pastored Berean Bible Church in Denver, taught New Testament at The Master's Seminary, and served as faculty at the Los Angeles Bible Training School. He continues to serve as President of the Los Angeles Bible Training School, and is a contributor to The Jesus Crisis and The Master's Perspective on Contemporary Issues (both Kregel).
Adrian Quatela serves as Spanish Pastor with a B.Th. from The Master's Seminary. The English-language Deacon Board consists of Ken Chau, Ted Dang, Edward Ewell, and David Stuart.
