About Eastside Baptist Church

A Sunday Hub on 137th East Avenue

Eastside Baptist Church stands at 14211 North 137th East Avenue in Collinsville, Oklahoma, just north of Tulsa, and has gathered families from the surrounding area since its very first service on Resurrection Sunday in 1992. The church centers its identity on three priorities: a high-quality children's ministry, engaging small groups, and application-oriented worship services. From those priorities it works to implement five functions - evangelism, discipleship, fellowship, ministry, and worship - in pursuit of its stated purpose to honor God by reaching and making followers of Jesus Christ.

Sunday Mornings, Casual and Contemporary

Worship at Eastside is intentionally contemporary and relaxed. The day begins at 9:30 AM with Small Groups for every age, flowing into the main worship service at 10:30 AM. Each gathering centers on the application of Scripture rather than the simple transfer of information, and the music ministry, led by Bob Ashinhurst since the church's founding, leads the congregational singing that complements the preaching.

A Steady Walk Through Scripture

Teaching at Eastside works through books of the Bible slowly, a chapter or two at a time, so that the congregation can follow along and put the text into practice. Pastor Michael Nunn handles the main Sunday exposition, and the youth minister occasionally steps in to preach on selected Sundays during the summer months. The list of recent messages, posted weekly, runs back for several months and is easy to follow for anyone working through a book with the church.

Children, From Sunday School Through Camp

Children's ministry is one of the flagship areas at Eastside. Age-appropriate Bible teaching and activities serve kindergarten through fifth grade through Sunday School, Children's Church, Wednesday Night Kids, and Vacation Bible School each summer. Children who have completed third through fifth grade are also invited to a summer camp. Eastside names its investment in the next generation of Collinsville alongside small groups and worship as one of the three things that define the church.

Youth and Camp Siloam

Students in grades 6 through 12 meet on both Sundays and Wednesdays. The youth ministry focuses on Bible study, fellowship, and service, with a calendar that includes summer activities and an annual trip to Camp Siloam. Justus Getz, a Collinsville High School graduate, took on the role in 2025.

College and Career, Men, and Women

A College and Career ministry gathers college-age students and young adults around Bible study and fellowship, giving them a way to grow in Christ alongside peers in a similar stage of life. The Women's Ministry organizes fellowship dinners, a Secret Sister encouragement program, a quilting ministry fundraiser, and a M.O.M.S. serving night at the local food pantry. The Men's Ministry gathers for projects around the church and for evening fellowships that pair a shared meal with watching football and unhurried conversation.

Wednesday Nights Around the Building

Wednesday evenings at 6:30 PM are a second weekly gathering point. Awana's runs for children, middle and high school students meet for youth group, and adults gather for Bible study, all on the same night so families can arrive together and head home together.

Serving Collinsville at Mission on Main Street

Ten days after the first Saturday of every month, Eastside sends a team to Mission on Main Street (M.O.M.S.), a local food pantry that helps families in the community. From 5:45 to 8:00 PM, volunteers shop alongside the families receiving food, bag their items, and help carry groceries and other goods to vehicles. The M.O.M.S. night is one of the most consistent rhythms on the church's outreach calendar.

What Eastside Believes

Eastside's doctrinal commitments are Trinitarian and evangelical. The church affirms that God eternally exists as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, co-equal and one God; that Jesus Christ lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross, rose again after three days, and will return again to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords; and that the Holy Spirit indwells every Christian from the moment of salvation, providing power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and at least one spiritual gift. The Bible is held to be God's Word, written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit, the supreme source of truth for Christian belief and living, true without any mixture of error. People are made in the spiritual image of God, and while every person has tremendous potential for good, all are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called sin.

The church's stated core values include the conviction that people matter to God, that teaching is for life-change, that the message will never change but the methods must, that the focus stays on what unites rather than divides, that every member is a minister with a mission to the world, that every expression of ministry must be done with excellence, authenticity, and integrity, that the family is the God-ordained backbone of society and must be strengthened and united, and that the church is committed to growing larger and smaller at the same time.

The Team

Pastor Michael Nunn has served Eastside since 2018. A Tulsa native, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Special Education from Northeastern State University and a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and has been in pastoral ministry since 2004. He is also a special education teacher in Owasso Public Schools.

Bob Ashinhurst has been music minister at Eastside since the church's founding in 1992. He and his wife Linda grew up in Chicago and have three children and six grandchildren. They travel and camp in a homemade camper van.

Justus Getz, the youth minister, joined the team in 2025. He grew up in Collinsville, graduated from Collinsville High School in 2020, and married Laney in 2024.
