Traditional Worship on Lake Underhill Road
Eastland Baptist Church sits on Lake Underhill Road in east Orlando, in a part of the city that has grown steadily for decades. The church describes itself as "in the heart of Orlando" and positions itself as a place where the whole family can worship together. Its services are Christ-centered, and preaching is drawn from the Word of God.
What sets the worship style apart is its commitment to hymn singing accompanied by a full orchestra and special music performed by a choir. The church calls this "a truly unique worship experience" and takes evident pride in the traditional feel of the gathering. For visitors who prefer a classic, hymn-based service over a contemporary band, that emphasis is the first thing worth knowing about Eastland.
A Full Weekly Calendar
The church runs a packed weekly schedule with four regular gatherings on its campus, all in English.
- Sunday School at 10:00 AM. Classes are offered for every age group, from nursery through adult, including gender-divided classes for elementary and teen students.
- Sunday Worship at 11:00 AM. The main morning service features hymns with the orchestra and choir.
- Sunday Evening Service at 6:00 PM. A second Sunday gathering closes the day.
- Wednesday Prayer Meeting at 7:00 PM. A midweek service that also functions as the youth gathering and the children's program night.
Office hours run Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Services are livestreamed on the church's YouTube channel for those who cannot attend in person, and giving is handled online through the church's Church Center platform.
Children, Teens, and Young Adults
Family ministry is one of the most visible parts of Eastland's identity. Programs are organized by age so that parents can worship while their children are cared for and taught.
Nursery and Beginners
The nursery serves newborns through age two at every service. Caring, screened, and trained workers provide a clean and safe environment, and security measures give parents peace of mind during worship.
Beginners' child care covers toddlers and preschoolers and runs during Sunday morning (10 AM to noon), Sunday evening ("Tater Tots" at 6 PM), and Wednesday evening ("Fisherman's Club" at 7 PM). Lessons include Bible songs, stories, crafts, and memory verses taught at a level children can understand. Teachers emphasize obedience, kindness, sharing, and the person of Jesus.
Jr. Church and Sunday School for Elementary
Children in grades one through five have their own gender- and age-divided Sunday School classes at 10 AM and Jr. Church at 11 AM. Each week includes a snack, a game, and a craft, with special days sprinkled through the year. Vacation Bible School is also part of the annual calendar for this age group.
Teens
Middle school and high school students meet for gender-divided Sunday School at 10 AM, where they discuss real-life challenges in a safe environment. Wednesday nights at 7 PM bring teens together for singing, games, fellowship, and a meaningful message tailored to their age. Extra activities throughout the year include outdoor manhunts, bowling nights, mini-golf outings, summer camps, and ski trips that combine fun with spiritual growth.
Young Adults
The Young Adults Ministry sees itself as a community for adults in the Orlando area, offering a counterweight to the distractions of the city with a safe and wholesome environment. Activities run throughout the week:
- Monday Night Bible Study (every other Monday)
- Visitation and Evangelism (every other Monday)
- Lunch After Church on the first Sunday of each month
- Young Men's Bible Study every Thursday night
- Young Ladies' Activities every other Thursday night
- Young Adult outings at least once a month
The ministry maintains an active presence on Instagram at @EastlandYoungAdults for updates and connection.
Annual Conferences and Special Events
Beyond its weekly rhythm, Eastland hosts several annual events that draw visitors from across Florida and beyond.
Missions Conference
Each summer the church holds a weeknight Missions Conference described as "the heart beat of our mission." Across several evenings, missionaries representing a variety of fields around the globe lead informal, interactive sessions. The week includes a kick-off dinner, evening services in the Victory Hall with hors d'oeuvres, a Senior Adult luncheon for those 55 and older, a young adults activity, a teen activity in the Activities Building, a married couples' date night, a Sunday School Spectacular taught by the missionaries, and a closing International Dinner.
Grow in Grace Ladies Conference
The ladies ministry hosts the annual Grow in Grace conference each spring, with keynote speakers, worship, and fellowship over a Friday evening and Saturday. The conference offers Spanish translation and two breakout sessions in Spanish, with attendees asked to register their Spanish-speaking guests in advance. Vendor tables are available for those with businesses to feature. A block of rooms is reserved at a nearby hotel at a discounted rate for out-of-town guests.
Church Planting Conference
Eastland hosts an annual Church Planting Conference designed to encourage and equip pastors, missionaries, and church planters across Florida and the wider United States. Hosted and moderated by Dr. Dennis Corle, the conference brings in voices such as Dr. Arlo Elam of Florida Baptist College and Westgate Baptist Church in Tampa. Sessions run across an evening and a full day, with lunch provided and motels located near the church for out-of-town guests. The conference reflects Eastland's conviction that church planting is one of the most urgent needs in a fast-growing state.
What Eastland Believes
Eastland Baptist Church holds to a clearly articulated doctrinal statement that places it within an independent, KJV-only Baptist tradition.
The church believes the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments to be the Word of God, verbally and plenarily inspired in the original writings. It holds to the Masoretic Text of the Old Testament and the Received Text (Textus Receptus) of the New Testament as the preserved words of God, and it expresses a preference for the King James Bible. Preachers and teachers at Eastland are asked to use the KJV.
The church affirms one Triune God, eternally existing in three co-equal persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It teaches that the Lord Jesus Christ became man without ceasing to be God, was born of the virgin Mary, accomplished redemption through His death on the cross as a substitutionary sacrifice, was raised physically from the dead, ascended to heaven, and now serves as High Priest, Intercessor, and Advocate at the right hand of God.
Eastland believes the Holy Spirit is the supernatural agent in regeneration, baptizing all believers into the body of Christ and indwelling and sealing them unto the day of redemption. The church holds that the sign gifts of the Holy Spirit, such as speaking in tongues and the gift of healing, were temporary and that speaking in tongues was never the common or necessary sign of Spirit baptism.
The church teaches that man was created in the image of God but fell in Adam and is totally depraved, unable to remedy his lost condition apart from Christ. Salvation is by grace through faith, not by works, and all the redeemed are kept by God's power and secure in Christ forever. The church practices two ordinances: baptism by immersion and the Lord's Supper.
Eastland affirms a literal, personal, visible, imminent, premillennial, and pretribulational return of Christ, with a rapture of the Church prior to a seven-year tribulation and a thousand-year reign established at Christ's return. It believes in the bodily resurrection of all men, the saved to eternal life and the unsaved to everlasting conscious punishment.
The church also practices a biblical separation, urging believers to live in a manner that does not bring reproach upon Christ and to separate from religious apostasy and sinful practices.
Its stated purpose flows from the Great Commission in Matthew 28: to reach the world with the Gospel of Christ, utilizing every biblical means, and to disciple and train every member to participate in that mission. The purpose is summarized in three phrases: Love God Fervently, Grow Together Biblically, and Reach Others.
The Activity Center and Campus
Eastland's campus extends well beyond the sanctuary. The Activity Center is a versatile indoor gymnasium that can be set up for basketball and volleyball, supported by outdoor facilities including a football/soccer field and a shared baseball/softball field. The church describes the property as a place where the community can come together in a safe, fun, and faith-filled environment, with open gym times and events posted on the church calendar. Victory Hall and the Corner Cafe host dinners, services, and fellowship events throughout the year, including the Missions Conference.
The church also points visitors to Eastland Christian School, a ministry of the church's campus for families looking for a Christian education option.
The Path of Salvation
Eastland maintains a clear gospel presentation for those exploring faith. The church teaches that God created human beings and loves them, but that sin has separated the human race from God and that the wages of sin is death. The good news is that Jesus Christ lived a sinless life, died on the cross as the payment for sin, and rose again three days later, offering forgiveness and eternal life to all who trust in Him. Salvation is a free gift received by grace through faith, not earned by works or religious effort.
For those who wish to respond, the church provides a model prayer of repentance and faith, and invites them to reach out so the church family can rejoice with them and help them grow in their new faith.
