Cornerstone Community Bible Church meets on twenty-two acres off FM 762 in Rosenberg, Texas, where the Fort Bend landscape gives way to a campus built on a former golf course. The church describes itself as a multi-ethnic, multi-generational congregation making an impact in southwest Houston and the world with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Sundays here unfold in three services - two in English and one in Spanish - and the building stays busy through the week with children's programs, student gatherings, women's and men's ministries, and small groups that spill into homes across Richmond, Rosenberg, and Sugar Land.
Three Sunday Services in Two Languages
Worship at Cornerstone runs three times on Sunday morning. English services begin at 9:00 AM and 10:45 AM, with a Spanish-language service at 12:00 PM that is pastored as a sister congregation called Iglesia Bíblica Piedra Angular. Visitors can wear whatever is comfortable - shorts and suits sit side by side in the pew. The 10:45 AM English service is also the broadcast service: it is livestreamed on Facebook at the same hour for those who cannot attend in person.
Music is contemporary, and the preaching carries straight through the text of Scripture. The lead pastor, Daniel Ostendorff, is the primary teaching pastor and walks the congregation through books of the Bible one at a time. Recent series have moved through Nehemiah, 1 Thessalonians, Colossians, and Anchored, a series on identity, truth, and purpose drawn from Genesis and 2 Corinthians.
Adults can also join a Bible study that meets in both English and Spanish during the Sunday hour.
Cornerstone Kids from Nursery Through Fifth Grade
The children's ministry, Cornerstone Kids, runs on Sunday mornings and again on Wednesday nights. On Sunday at 9:00 AM, nursery care and classes are open for children aged three and under. At the 10:45 AM hour, classes are available for every age from nursery through fifth grade. Younger children (nursery to age three) use the Discipleland curriculum and learn through play, music, a lesson, and a snack. Pre-K through fifth graders worship together at the start of the hour, then separate into grade-level classrooms to work through the same Bible lesson in age-appropriate ways. Older elementary classrooms use the Answers in Genesis curriculum.
Safety is built around an online check-in system. Families can pre-register before their first visit, then check in up to fifteen minutes before service. First-time families who pre-register receive a welcome gift for the children at the Kids Check-In Desk.
On Wednesday nights, MidWeek at Cornerstone runs from 6:30 to 8:00 PM for kids through incoming fifth grade. The children's ministry is led by Director Kristen Mulkey, with Cattin McClendon serving as the Children's Ministry Assistant.
Helping Students Know, Follow, and Share Jesus
The student ministry gathers middle school and high school students on Sunday mornings during the 10:45 AM service, meeting in an upstairs classroom for teaching and small-group discussion. On the first Sunday of every month, students join the rest of the church body for the worship service, which includes communion. A second weekly gathering on Wednesday evenings adds games, music, food, and an encouraging message aimed at students.
Student Pastor Andy Garcia describes the ministry's approach as Grow and Go. Grow means introducing students to Jesus, helping Christian students go deeper, equipping them to stay grounded in Scripture, and connecting them with friends and small groups. Go means putting faith into practice by serving the church, encouraging students to live out their faith at school, and creating opportunities to serve under-resourced areas. The student ministry is also the host for summer activities and the annual Winter Student Camp.
Home Teams, Bible Studies, and Adult Discipleship
Discipleship beyond Sunday happens in two main settings: Home Teams and Bible Studies. Home Teams are small groups that meet twice a month - in homes or online - to build friendships, pray together, serve together, and encourage one another spiritually. They are described as the best way to get meaningfully connected at Cornerstone.
Bible Studies are offered on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and are designed for men, women, and couples. Current offerings include a weekly Women's Bible Study working through the book of Judges and a Men's Bible Study that meets on Wednesdays and Fridays. The Elders of Adult Bible Studies, currently led by Eric Fridge, oversee the adult Bible study ministry.
Women's Ministry, Men's Ministry, MomCo, and Vintage VIP
The Women's Ministry gathers women around the study of God's Word, prayer, service, and fellowship. A weekly Bible study runs alongside an annual spring retreat at Camp Allen. MomCo meets once a month and offers practical teaching through speakers, demonstrations, and videos in a setting aimed at mothers with young children.
The Men's Ministry centers on a community of men who study God's Word, encourage one another, and pursue Christ together. A weekly men's Bible study meets on Wednesdays and Fridays, and a discipleship track invites men to learn what it looks like to follow Jesus.
Older adults find their own gathering in Vintage VIP Lunch, which meets on the fourth Friday of every month for food, fellowship, and encouragement for those 65 and older.
A Statement of Faith Rooted in the EFCA
Cornerstone Community Bible Church is affiliated with the Evangelical Free Church of America, working within the EFCA TX-OK District. The church's statement of faith covers thirteen distinct convictions. The church confesses one God, Creator of all things, eternally existing in three equally divine Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Bible, both Old and New Testaments, is received as the verbally inspired Word of God, without error in its original writings and as the ultimate authority for faith and life. Human beings, created in God's image, fell into sin through Adam and Eve and can be reconciled to God only through the saving work of Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ is confessed as God incarnate, fully God and fully man, conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, who lived a sinless life, was crucified, rose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, and now sits at the right hand of the Father. His atoning death and resurrection are the only ground for salvation. The Holy Spirit glorifies Christ, convicts the world, regenerates sinners, and indwells, illuminates, guides, equips, and empowers believers for Christ-like living.
The church teaches that the true church is made up of all who have been justified by grace through faith in Christ, manifest in local congregations whose membership is composed of believers. The Lord Jesus mandated two ordinances, baptism and the Lord's Supper, which visibly and tangibly express the gospel. Christian living joins justifying grace to sanctifying power and purpose, calling believers to love God supremely and others sacrificially, to care for the poor and pursue justice for the oppressed, and to make disciples among all people.
The statement also affirms the personal, bodily, and premillennial return of Christ, the bodily resurrection and final judgment of all people, the eternal security of genuine believers, marriage as a lifelong union between one man and one woman, the sanctity of human life from conception through natural death, and the moral character of human sexuality as God has defined it.
Local and Global Outreach
Outreach is built on long-standing partnerships in the Richmond, Rosenberg, and Sugar Land area. The Obadiah Project works with the Houston Food Bank and Second Mile Mission to provide food for families in need. Fort Bend Corps and Hearts & Hammers provide home repair for needy families. Second Mile Mission offers a safe place where people in poverty or crisis can find help. The Pregnancy Resource Center supports mothers facing unplanned or crisis pregnancies. Cornerstone also partners with Velasquez Elementary School and supports Houston church planting through the EFCA.
Globally, the church sends support to Elijah and Erin Derbecker, missionaries to the Democratic Republic of the Congo; Roger and Leanne Hanna, who work in Bible translation with the Seed Company; The Plans He Has for You Ministries in Kenya; and Kempton and Caryn Turner, who plant a church in East St. Louis. The church also supports Ukraine Relief, including aid to refugees arriving in Houston, and ministries in restricted countries that cannot be listed publicly. Mission teams are sent abroad on a regular basis.
Music, Prayer, and Pastoral Care
Music carries the weight of the worship hour at Cornerstone. The music ministry exists to let the word of Christ dwell richly among the people, teaching and admonishing one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Anyone who sings or plays can find a place to serve.
A prayer request form on the church's online connection platform invites anyone to share needs so the congregation can pray. The pastoral team and elders keep prayer as a steady undercurrent to the Sunday gathering.
Leadership and Governance
The church is led by Lead Pastor and Teaching Pastor Daniel Ostendorff, who joined Cornerstone in the spring of 2023. Ostendorff holds a Doctorate in History from the University of Oxford and grew up as a missionary kid in Nairobi, Kenya. His sermons run through books of the Bible in expository fashion.
Pastor Ángel Molero serves as the Spanish Ministries Pastor at Iglesia Bíblica Piedra Angular. A graduate of the Venezuelan Baptist Theological Seminary and a current student at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Molero also serves within the ENDOS pastoral network and collaborates with Simeon Trust and Ante Su Palabra, ministries that train pastors in Christ-centered, expository preaching.
An elder board governs the congregation. Daryl Cote chairs the board. Eric Fridge oversees adult Bible studies. Robert Sims oversees finance. Mike Krogstad oversees information technology. Nathan Kattner serves as an elder. Kristen Mulkey directs Children's Ministry with Cattin McClendon assisting. Andy Garcia is the Student Pastor. The founding pastor was Dr. Brent Burckart, who in 2022 stepped down from his role as Senior Pastor to become the District Supervisor of the EFCA TX-OK District.
From a Movie Theater to Twenty-Two Acres
Cornerstone Community Bible Church was founded in 2001 with a handful of families committed to the vision of changing lives through the truth of God's Word and the love of God's people in the Richmond, Rosenberg, and Sugar Land area. Those first families met for worship at the First Colony AMC Theatre. As the years went by, the church grew, acquired office space, and added staff. In 2007, the Lord blessed the congregation with twenty-two acres of a former golf course on FM 762 in Rosenberg. In the fall of 2010, the permanent home opened with the completion of the first building on that property.
From a living-room-sized gathering in a movie theater to a twenty-two-acre campus with three Sunday services, Cornerstone now runs children's ministry every Sunday morning and Wednesday night, student ministry through the week, women's, men's, and seniors' programs, Home Teams across the area, and a steady stream of local and global outreach. The church's story is told in the words of Psalm 118:23, quoted on its own history page: "This is the LORD's doing; it is marvelous in our eyes."
Becoming a Member
Those who want to make Cornerstone their church home can begin the membership process by attending a Starting Point informational lunch. After completing the class, a pastor or elder contacts each attendee personally to answer questions, connect them to a Home Team and a Ministry Team, and formalize membership. Members are formally identified with a spiritual family, have a place to discover and use their spiritual gifts, receive spiritual guidance and accountability, may vote on important church matters, and may be considered for leadership positions.
