Community Bible Church in Irving, Texas: 40 Years of Preaching the Word

Independent Fundamentalist Church in Irving, Texas

Community Bible Church is an independent, Bible-teaching congregation in Irving, Texas, committed to worshiping God, making disciples, and supporting missionaries around the world through preaching, teaching, and community life.

About Community Bible Church

Community Bible Church sits on Texas Drive in Irving, Texas, a few minutes from the heart of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The church was founded in 1986 and recently marked forty years of ministry in its community. Around its single location, an extended family of believers gathers weekly to worship, study the Bible, serve one another, and send missionaries around the world. The church's motto, repeated across the front of its site and inside its worship center, frames everything else: We exist to love God, love one another, and make disciples of Jesus Christ.

Mission and Values

The mission breaks into three commitments. Loving God happens by embracing His love in Christ, growing to know Him through His Word, and joyfully obeying His commands. Loving one another is the second greatest commandment and the mark of a disciple, carried out in practical service. Making disciples is the work of preaching the gospel and teaching God's Word to those inside the church, in Irving, and around the world.

Six core values give shape to that mission: Worship, rooted in Romans 12:1, as the goal of life; Scripture, treated as God's inspired Word that the church joyfully studies and submits to; Prayer, as God's invitation to be heard; Community, marked by believers knowing and supporting one another through life's ups and downs; Discipleship, as a life-giving journey of becoming more like Jesus; and Outreach and Missions, sending and supporting workers who share the good news of Jesus both locally and globally.

What Sundays Look Like

The Sunday rhythm opens at 9:30 a.m. with Sunday School for every age. Adults choose from several classes held in the fellowship hall and classrooms: a co-ed class studying First Samuel taught by Fred Kahn, a co-ed class working through the Book of Acts led by Paul Thomas, a women's class on the Gospel of John with Cindy LaTour, and a young adult class on the Minor Prophets led by Steven and Jenna Rogers. Childcare, coffee, and donuts are provided at each class. Children's classes are organized by age, with three- and four-year-olds in Room #2, kindergarten through third grade in Room #3, and fourth through sixth grade in Room #5. Infants and toddlers are cared for in Room #1.

The main worship service begins at 10:45 a.m. The church preaches exegetically through the Bible, working verse by verse through books and applying them to everyday life. Recent sermon series have moved through Acts ("To the Ends of the Earth"), Ezra ("A People Rebuilt"), Advent, and an extended series through Nehemiah that includes messages such as "Sing Praise," "Home Is Where We Belong," "Revival in the Land," and "Time to Hit Your Knees." Music, prayer, fellowship, and teaching all shape the gathering. Visitors are warmly welcomed and can plan a visit through a dedicated page on the church site. Services are also livestreamed on Facebook.

Kids begin the worship service with their families for the opening music. After the greeting time, children ages four through fourth grade are invited to Kids Church, a separate class with games, songs, crafts, and a Bible lesson tailored to their age. Parents are encouraged to check kids in before the service begins.

What the Church Believes

Community Bible Church describes itself as a community seeking to worship and glorify God in obedience to His Word by sharing Christ with all who will listen and by training all believers for the work of ministry. The full statement of faith covers the Bible as the inspired, error-free Word of God; one God eternally existing in three equal persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit); the person and work of each member of the Trinity; the reality of angels, fallen and unfallen, and the fall of Satan; the creation of man in God's image and the inherited sin that separates people from God; salvation by grace through faith alone in Jesus Christ; the security of the believer, sealed by the Holy Spirit; sanctification as positional, progressive, and ultimate; the church as both a universal body with Christ as its head and as local gatherings of believers; the ordinances of water baptism by immersion and the Lord's Supper; the imminent, pre-tribulational return of Christ; the tribulation, the millennial kingdom, the bodily resurrection of all people, and final judgment.

Those convictions shape the church's tone. Teaching is Bible-saturated, the ordinances are practiced, and the gospel is presented as the means by which people are made right with God.

Kids' Ministry

Community Bible Church treats children's ministry as central rather than incidental. Every kids' space has at least two background-checked, trained volunteers, and the philosophy is that how children learn about God as kids shapes how they view Him for life. Sunday School offers age-specific Bible classes from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., with greeters meeting families at the left entrance of the building and walking them to the check-in area. Kids Church runs during the second half of the worship service for children ages four through fourth grade, with songs, games, crafts, and a Bible story prepared for them. The church partners with parents, recognizing that spiritual formation is shared between home and congregation.

Youth Ministry

Students in seventh through twelfth grade have a dedicated ministry designed to help them belong, explore their faith, and follow Jesus together. On Sunday mornings, youth meet in the youth room at 9:30 for a Bible class and then join the larger worship service at 10:45. Sunday evenings from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m., the youth room fills with games, worship, a relevant Bible teaching, small group time, and a shared meal. Adult youth leaders are background-checked and safety-trained, and the ministry's goal is to engage students' honest questions, teach them how to connect with God personally, and build confidence in Christ. Special events throughout the year include pool parties, a lake day, movie nights, skate nights, and a fall retreat at a cabin in Broken Bow, Oklahoma. The associate pastor, Brian Vranicar, oversees the ministry alongside Sarah Vranicar, who leads communications and youth ministry.

AWANA

AWANA ("Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed") is the church's Wednesday evening children's program during the school year. It runs from 7:00 to 8:15 p.m. for children ages three through sixth grade, divided into the age-specific Cubbies, Sparks, T&T Girls, and T&T Boys clubs. Kids play games, memorize Scripture, and learn about God in a fun, structured environment. The program kicks off each fall and includes special events throughout the year, like a nature hike and Grand Prix car race. A greeter meets families at the left door and walks children to their class. Robby Ezell leads the program.

Women's Ministry

The women's ministry at Community Bible Church is built around encouragement, study, and friendship. Letah Samuelson oversees the ministry, and women's prayer groups meet weekly: one on Mondays at 1:00 p.m. and the other on the second and fourth Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m., both at the CBC office. Bible studies rotate through books of the Bible. Recent and upcoming studies include "The Mind of Christ" in Philippians (offered both at the church on Wednesday evenings and in a home on Thursday evenings), an eight-week study of Judges ("A Time of Turning"), and "Finding Stability in a Changing World" in Colossians. Each summer, "Women at the Well" gathers women for a relaxed season of connection with rotating activities such as service projects, painting, and field trips. An annual spring retreat provides time away from everyday life for rest, study, and fellowship.

Men's Ministry

The men's ministry is led through a combination of regular rhythms and seasonal events. A monthly Men's Breakfast meets on the third Saturday of each month from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. in the CBC fellowship hall, offering a free meal, a Bible teaching, and a time of conversation. A Monday-evening Bible study in Room #6 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. works through books of the Bible (recently Galatians, led by Brian Vranicar). An annual fall retreat invites men away for a weekend in nature with teaching, rest, and fellowship. The ministry's stated aspiration is for men of CBC to be grounded in Christ and equipped to lead in their homes, workplaces, and the church.

Small Groups

Small groups supplement the Sunday School hour and provide midweek connection. They include a co-ed small group hosted by Fred and Val Kahn on the second and fourth Sundays of the month from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., with potluck dinner, fellowship, and a Bible study, and another co-ed group hosted by Miguel and Liz Picart on the second Saturday of the month from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., with dinner, conversation, and a book study open to the whole family. A young adults ministry gathers a separate demographic for community and study. The point of every group is the same: to grow in the knowledge and love of God alongside other believers and to form lasting friendships in the process.

Missions and Outreach

Community Bible Church partners with more than a dozen missionary families serving around the world. The current mission family roster includes David and Jerrine Berkey in Venezuela with WorldVenture; Steve and Tanya Briix in South Africa with Entrust; Daniel and Rebecca Buller in Germany with KontaktMission; Elisei and Marianna Cozima and Vitalie and Inga Gavril in Moldova with Cru; Nathan and Brittany Garrett in Romania with SEND; Kevin and Lucy Heater in France with CrossWorld; Sajmir and Blerta Troksi in Albania with Cru; Kyle and Alissa Winker in Argentina with Avant; and Chris and Flor Young in Argentina with Navigators. Sarah Vranicar serves in Dallas through Global Service Network. The church sends, supports, and prays for these workers as part of its commitment to taking the gospel to the ends of the earth.

Closer to home, the church periodically opens its doors and its parking lot for community-building events. One example is a community cookout at Victoria Park, a casual evening of grilling, conversation, and inviting neighbors to church. The church is also working through a building construction project, with details posted on a dedicated page.

Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School is the highlight of the church's summer children's calendar. Each year the building is transformed into a themed environment, and kids from the church and surrounding neighborhood are welcomed in for a week of singing, games, crafts, Bible stories, and friendships. The evenings run from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. and conclude with a Family Night featuring a shared meal, the kids singing their favorite songs of the week, a gospel presentation, and a time of celebrating God's goodness together.

Leadership

Steve Nutter serves as Senior Pastor and an elder, with Brian Vranicar as Associate Pastor. Four additional elders, Matt Downey, James Hathorn, Paul Thomas, and Bob Sweeney, share pastoral governance, and Miguel Picart serves as a deacon. Ministry leaders across the congregation include Robby Ezell (AWANA), Cindy LaTour (Evangelism), Brian McRae (Tech), Letah Samuelson (Women's Ministry), David Simmons (Sound), and Sarah Vranicar (Communications and Youth Ministry). Janice Hall handles office administration and Jackie Jasper manages accounting.

Giving and Staying Connected

Community Bible Church is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt religious organization. Giving is available online through Tithe.ly, and visitors can plan a visit through a dedicated page on the church site. An email newsletter keeps those interested informed about upcoming events and ministry news. Services are livestreamed on Facebook, and a sermon archive stretching back several years is available on the church site, organized by series.

What to Expect for a First Visit

Visitors are welcomed at the left entrance of the building, where greeters are ready to point families to the right classrooms for kids or to the worship center for adults. Casual attire is normal. The morning includes Sunday School at 9:30, the main service at 10:45, and an evening youth gathering for teens. A nursery and a full children's program run alongside the worship service, and there is plenty of room for the whole family to participate at their own pace.
