Intercessor Church in Malverne, New York, welcomes people from Malverne, Lynbrook, Valley Stream, Rockville Centre, West Hempstead, and elsewhere in Nassau County. It is known for convergence worship, two Sunday gatherings each week, and a family of ministries that pair discipleship with compassionate care.
Two Sunday Gatherings in Malverne
Intercessor Church's stated worship address is 50 St. Thomas Place, Malverne, New York. For GPS directions and front-door drop-off, the church uses 68 Acorn Way; 50 Saint Thomas Place is also the mailing address. Sunday worship begins at 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Each gathering is a full service that averages about 65 minutes and can be attended in person or online.
- 9:00 a.m. The first Sunday gathering includes worship, biblical teaching, and opportunities for children.
- 11:00 a.m. The second gathering offers the same full-service pattern.
- At both times: Friendly greeters meet arrivals, and the congregation can worship with live music and spoken elements from the historic and contemporary service.
People who cannot be present in Malverne can join the 9:00 or 11:00 gathering through the church's YouTube livestream, and past messages remain available through its watch collection.
Convergence Worship: Historic, Contemporary, and Spirit-Filled
Intercessor calls its worship convergence, a blending of the historic, evangelical, and Spirit-filled streams of Christian faith. The church describes worship as deeply rooted in tradition and alive with modern expressions, combining the wisdom of Scripture with the work of the Holy Spirit. Jesus remains the center of worship and community life.
- Scripture is read aloud.
- Sacraments are honored.
- Communion uses bread and wine.
- Music and ancient prayers shape the service.
- Bible teaching and spoken exhortation are part of worship.
- Incense and other symbolic elements add sensory meaning.
Each gathering also makes room for prayer, healing, and spontaneous response to God's presence. The result is both rooted and expectant, joining historic worship with the energy of a lively celebration. The aim is to honor God's holiness while making worship joyful, helping people encounter God and discover the purpose He has for their lives. Fr. Joe Ciccarello leads worship and audiovisual work, while Fr. Jim Connolly leads faith formation and education.
What a First Sunday Looks Like
A first visit is designed to be simple and comfortable. Greeters at the entrance can answer questions and direct visitors to the sanctuary, children's sign-up area, or restrooms. No advance registration is required, and no one is expected to be perfect. Dress is equally relaxed: there is no dress code, so jeans, sneakers, or whatever feels comfortable are welcome.
Children Welcome at Both Services
Children are welcome at both Sunday services. Intercessor offers Sunday School plus care for infants and toddlers through i-Kids, its ministry for children from birth through age 12. Families can sign children in at the designated kids' area or keep them with them in the service. The NextGen ministry also provides safe, fun spaces designed to help children and young people connect with the life of the church.
Parking, Drop-Off, and Accessibility
Parking is available on neighborhood streets near the church, with additional space behind the elementary school, in the Malverne Library parking lot, and along Norwood Avenue and Nottingham Road. Drop-off and pick-up are available directly in front on Acorn Way.
- Accessible parking is behind the church.
- An accessible elevator entrance at the rear parking lot provides access into the building.
- Using 68 Acorn Way as the GPS destination puts visitors at the arrival area used for drop-off and pick-up.
The church's contact hours are Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; Friday through Sunday, visits are by appointment or around scheduled services. Visitors who want to make their first arrival easier may share their name through the Plan a Visit form, but participation is entirely optional.
NextGen Meets Children, Teens, and Young Adults
NextGen is Intercessor's ministry for children, teens, and young adults, with the stated aim of forming disciples who are rooted in God's Word, led by the Holy Spirit, and integrated into the wider church rather than separated from it. Floris de Smet directs NextGen.
i-Kids, Birth Through Age 12
i-Kids gathers at 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on Sundays. Its teaching blends Word, Spirit, and Sacrament, caring leaders guide the children, and the ministry partners with parents to support discipleship every day. Jamie Bellamy leads i-Kids curriculum development.
i-Youth, Ages 13 to 17
i-Youth meets Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. The schedule includes fellowship, prayer, Bible discussion, community service, and fun outings. Liva Harinjaka leads the ministry, and its leaders walk alongside teenagers through the realities of their lives.
Intercessor College & Career, Ages 18 to 28
Intercessor College & Career meets Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. Group discussion is tied to sermon series, participants discover and activate spiritual gifts, and young adults are encouraged to serve and lead in the church.
NextGen's four commitments are that Jesus is central, love is relational, discipleship is intentional, and young people are integrated into the whole church rather than kept in a separate part of church life.
Community Groups, GriefShare, and Overcomers
Community Groups are small groups for all ages and seasons of life. They meet regularly to study God's Word, talk honestly about real life and challenges, pray for one another, celebrate good times, and support each other through hard times. These relationships create a place where people are known, loved, encouraged to grow, and connected beyond the rows of a Sunday seat. Gwendolyn Chen leads the Community Groups ministry.
GriefShare for Those Who Have Lost Someone
GriefShare is a 13-week, Christ-centered support group for people grieving the loss of a spouse, child, family member, or friend. Weekly sessions are self-contained, so participants can join at any point during the cycle. Each session combines video teaching, group discussion, and personal reflection. Intercessor offers GriefShare regularly, with Carmen Shortt serving on the team.
Overcomers for Addiction and Emotional Struggles
Overcomers is a 12-week, no-pressure, faith-based recovery group for anyone facing addiction, anxiety, grief, or emotional struggles. It welcomes both those exploring faith and those who simply need support. Weekly meetings include prayer, support, and small-group discussion and use the A Daily Choice workbook. The setting is confidential and judgment-free, and participants may join without catching up. Deacon Eddie leads Overcomers with more than a decade of experience in recovery ministry.
Next Steps for Newcomers and Returning Members
The four-week Next Steps group meets Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. It is designed as a simple entry into church life for people who are new to church or returning after being away.
iCare for Difficult Seasons
iCare is Intercessor's network of specially trained outreach ministers, built on the Stephen Ministry model, providing one-to-one, Christ-centered care. Its caregivers are drawn from the church and include lay leaders and staff under trained iCare leaders. They offer confidential listening, emotional and spiritual support, prayer, and companionship through difficult seasons. Marge Barbaro serves on the Stephen Ministry team.
The need for care can arise from:
- Pregnancy, birth, post-birth challenges, infertility, or miscarriage.
- Military deployment, job loss, career crisis, or financial hardship.
- Long-term illness, chronic conditions, disabilities, or major medical crises.
- Divorce, relationship struggles, family caregiver stress, or burnout.
- Grief and loss, including end-of-life and hospice support.
- Natural or human-caused disasters.
- Major transitions such as relocation, blended families, an empty nest, retirement, or moving to assisted living.
Those using iCare are encouraged to gain new understanding of their emotions, thoughts, and challenges, build authentic connections, and experience hope, healing, and encouragement without judgment. The ministry describes its role as listening, praying, and walking alongside someone during difficult seasons.
Serving as Part of the Family
Intercessor presents serving as part of Christian discipleship and teaches that people are called to use their God-given gifts. New volunteers receive training, encouragement, and help finding a suitable place to serve. Tools for discovering gifts include a Spiritual Gifts Test and a Myers-Briggs personality test.
- Greet arrivals and assist with the altar team during in-person services.
- Host online services by encouraging, praying for, and connecting with viewers.
- Support administration, cleaning, setup, and décor on weekdays.
- Train as a caregiver through Stephen Ministry or GriefShare.
- Write, research, design, or post content for social media and digital outreach.
- Teach Sunday School, Catechism classes, and TUMI, the church's partnership with World Impact.
- Play an instrument, sing in the choir or band, or serve as a soloist.
- Care for the campus through maintenance and repair work.
- Help with events and weekly lobby setup.
- Join Overcomers recovery ministry or evangelism in person and online.
Giving is also described as discipleship. Intercessor offers secure one-time or recurring gifts through PushPay, along with giving by stock, cryptocurrency, mail, text message, and an Intercessor app for iPhone and Android. The church also offers financial-hardship resources and courses for those who want to give during difficult seasons.
Rooted in Word, Spirit, and Sacrament
Intercessor Church describes itself as a Charismatic Episcopal Church and a Christ-centered family of faith. Senior Pastor Bp. Brett Crompton leads the church, and Fr. Nicolas Navarro serves as assistant pastor and Director of Transformation Ministries and Weekend Experience. Its mission is Love God. Love People. Build Disciples. The church seeks to be multicultural, meet people where they are, and form disciples who can serve and love others. It holds that the Gospel is for all people and that transformation is possible through the power of the Holy Spirit.
The welcome extends to people at every stage of belief. Intercessor welcomes those who believe, are questioning, or have been away. Its core beliefs are that God loves each person and has a purpose for their life, Jesus offers hope, healing, and a new start, and faith grows best in community through prayer, service, and life together. Questions are welcomed, doubt is treated as normal, and people are not expected to have everything figured out before joining.
That emphasis shapes the church's worship and ministries: love shown through welcome, teaching, recovery support, one-to-one care, service, and the formation of young people as disciples. Intercessor Church's identity in Malverne is rooted in historic faith and energized by contemporary, Spirit-filled worship, with an outward focus on forming people who love God and serve people.
