Sunday Worship at Eleven
Pine Valley Church of God gathers at 3810 Shipyard Boulevard in Wilmington, North Carolina, and the weekly rhythm centers on the 11:00 AM Sunday worship service. The service is built around preaching the Word of God, congregational worship, fellowship, and a heart for service to God, the church, and the community. Pastor Larry Horrell brings the message alongside his wife and co-pastor Jennifer Horrell. Children are a first priority each Sunday morning: kids church and a nursery are available, and the service is livestreamed for those joining from home.
Anyone planning a first visit can arrive a little early to settle the children. The nursery, for children from birth through age four, opens at 10:45 AM and stays open through the close of the service. The building sits on a busy stretch of Shipyard Boulevard on the south side of Wilmington, with parking on site. Regular attire runs from casual to Sunday best; the church simply invites people to come as they are.
Kids Church and Tuesday Youth Night
Children have a place of their own during the 11:00 AM service. Kids ages five through eleven gather for a monthly series called Follow Me, with puppets, Bible teaching, games, and room to be loud. Parents of infants and toddlers through age four can drop them in the nursery from 10:45 AM until the close of worship.
Teens ages twelve through eighteen gather on Tuesdays from 6:00 to 7:00 PM for Youth Night in the youth room at the church. The hour is built around Bible study, games, and snacks, giving students a regular midweek touch point outside Sunday morning.
LifeGroups Through the Week
LifeGroups are Pine Valley's small-group engine, designed to help people grow in the Word and connect with others in the church family. Registration cards are available in the sanctuary, groups are kept small (a fifteen-person maximum), and the offerings split into a weekly track and a monthly track.
- Sunday School LifeGroup - Sundays, 9:00 to 10:30 AM
- Crafting Corner LifeGroup - Sundays, 5:00 to 6:30 PM (a small supply cost applies)
- Sunday Lunch Crew - second Sunday at 1:00 PM, off-site (cost of meal)
- Compassion Crew - third Sunday at 1:00 PM, off-site; shares a meal and visits a shut-in
- Bible Study LifeGroup - Wednesdays, 6:30 to 8:00 PM, working through a study on prayer
- Praying God's Word 4 Your Life - second Monday, 6:00 to 7:30 PM, meeting in Leland
- Creative Bible Studying - fourth Tuesday, 6:30 to 8:00 PM
The church also plans quarterly senior-adult outings, including chartered trips to regional dinner theaters.
First Sunday Praise and Prayer
On the first Sunday of every month at 4:00 PM, the sanctuary is given over to an hour of praise, prayer, and communion. The hour is spent lifting up individual needs, the needs of the church, and the needs of the nation, and the Lord's Supper is observed together. Women's Prayer, a bi-monthly morning gathering on Wednesdays at 11:00 AM, brings the ladies of the church together for an hour of focused prayer for families, the church, and the needs of others. Guests at Women's Prayer enter through the drive-under end of the building.
The Choir Welcomes Singers
The Pine Valley choir sings weekly in Sunday worship and rehearses on Tuesday evenings. Anyone who has a song in their heart is invited to sign up at the Info Center in the foyer, and the church will follow up with more information about joining.
What Pine Valley Believes
Pine Valley Church of God holds to the Church of God's Declaration of Faith. The statement begins with the verbal inspiration of the Bible and affirms one God eternally existing as Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. The church confesses Jesus Christ as the only begotten Son, conceived of the Holy Ghost and born of the Virgin Mary, and declares His crucifixion, burial, resurrection, ascension, and present ministry as Intercessor at the right hand of the Father.
The Declaration continues with the doctrine that all have sinned and that repentance is commanded of God and necessary for forgiveness. Justification, regeneration, and the new birth are wrought by faith in the blood of Jesus Christ. Sanctification is taught as subsequent to the new birth, through faith in the blood of Christ, through the Word, and by the Holy Ghost, with holiness as the standard of living for God's people.
Pine Valley teaches the baptism with the Holy Ghost subsequent to a clean heart, with speaking in tongues as the initial evidence. Water baptism by immersion is practiced in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, and the church regularly observes the Lord's Supper and the washing of the saints' feet. The statement also affirms divine healing through the atonement, the premillennial second coming of Jesus (first to resurrect the righteous dead and catch away the living saints, then to reign on the earth a thousand years), the bodily resurrection, eternal life for the righteous, and eternal punishment for the wicked.
Food Pantry and Community Outreach
A monthly food pantry serves neighbors across the greater Wilmington area. Each month the church identifies specific items most needed and invites the congregation to place those donations on a table in the foyer. Members of the broader community are also invited to help feed the hungry in the local area through the pantry's ongoing work.
Livestream, Sermon Archive, and Giving
Sunday services are livestreamed for those joining from home. A video archive keeps recent services available on demand, and an audio archive of Pastor Larry Horrell's sermons is posted on the church media page. The audio archive captures the sermon only, with full-service recordings not provided due to file-size limits.
Tithes and offerings can be made online through the church's secure Engage giving portal, which supports both one-time gifts and recurring contributions. Anyone needing help setting up an account can call the church office at 910-791-8253.
Plan Your Visit
The church office is open Monday through Thursday from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM and is closed on Friday. A prayer team of twenty-five people stands ready to pray for requests shared on a prayer card during worship or phoned in to the office. Whether someone is new to the area, exploring faith, or looking for a Pentecostal church anchored in the Word, the 11:00 AM Sunday service at 3810 Shipyard Boulevard is the simplest place to start.
