Catonsville Baptist Church sits on Frederick Road in the heart of Catonsville, a community in Baltimore County, Maryland. The church's stated mission is to declare the gospel and display the glory of Christ, and members describe themselves as a diverse community of repenting sinners who have been graciously reconciled to God and to one another through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
A 1924 Beginning on Bloomsbury Avenue
The first covenant members began meeting in 1923 in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles German on Bloomsbury Avenue, gathering for the purpose of organizing Baptist work in Catonsville. In January 1924 the group officially organized with eleven covenant members. The church has continued to influence the community through the gospel of Jesus Christ and carries on the legacy laid down by those first members.
Holding to the Baptist Faith and Message
Catonsville Baptist is a confessional church. Members hold the Baptist Faith and Message as their confessional document, summarizing what the church believes God's Word teaches about central matters of faith and practice. All who join are required to sustain this statement of faith, helping to protect the gospel of Jesus Christ. The church is also a committed one: members uphold a written church covenant that gives shape to how the congregation lives together as God's people.
Sunday Mornings and Wednesday Evenings
Worship is at the center of weekly life. Sunday School for all ages meets at 9:30 a.m., followed by corporate worship at 10:30 a.m. A Wednesday evening Bible study runs from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the first, second, and third weeks of the month. The current teaching series running through the sermon archive is Exodus: Saved to Serve.
What a First-Time Visitor Finds
Worship services last about ninety minutes and include singing, praying, various readings, and preaching from God's Word. Dress tends toward business-casual, though jeans and suits are both common. Children are welcome in the service; families are encouraged to worship together, and a cry room is available in the back of the Worship Center.
