Capitoland Christian Center sits in the southwest corner of Madison, Wisconsin, where a non-denominational church shares its campus with a Christian school, a daycare, and one of the most far-reaching missions operations in the region. Founded more than forty years ago by Pastor Stephen Stauffacher after what he describes as a divine encounter, Capitoland now touches every U.S. state and over forty-four countries while still gathering weekly on Maple Grove Drive. The church, the school, the daycare, and the mission network share one phone number and one vision: Love God, Love People, Make Disciples, Reach Our City.
Four Locations Across Wisconsin
Capitoland's flagship campus meets at 3651 Maple Grove Drive in Madison. Sunday worship is held at 10:30 AM, with a Tuesday prayer night at 6:30 PM and a Wednesday Bible study at the same hour. A second Madison gathering, the Indian Church, meets at the same address on Sundays at 1:30 PM and is streamed online. Madison services are offered in English, Hindi, and Telugu.
Prairie Creek The Refuge, in Sun Prairie at 6484 North Bird Street, holds its Sunday service at 9:00 AM, with a Spanish-language service the same day at 2:00 PM and a Thursday Bible study at 6:00 PM. Platteville Community Church rounds out the Wisconsin family with a 2:00 PM Sunday worship service. Services at Capitoland, the Indian Church, and Prairie Creek are all available online through the church's social channels.
A School, a Daycare, and a Church Under One Roof
The Capitoland Children's Center turns the church's faith into a daily rhythm for hundreds of Madison-area kids. The daycare welcomes children from six weeks old, with full-time, part-time, and flexible scheduling from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM on weekdays. Above the infant rooms sits Capitoland Christian School, a private school offering full-day 4K through third grade. The school day begins at 8:15 AM and ends at 3:15 PM, with Mondays releasing early at 1:45 PM.
For older students, Kids' Club 2:52 wraps around the public school day for kids in 4K through middle school. The program offers free transportation to and from a long list of Madison-area schools, including Charis, Chavez, Glacier Edge, Huegel, Leopold, Netherwood Knoll, Olson, Orchard Ridge, Prairie View, Queen of Peace, and Stoner Prairie. Capitoland Christian School students are picked up daily before and after class. The program maintains a 1:14 caregiver-to-child ratio, a 4,000-square-foot indoor sports area, and more than ten acres of outdoor play space. A 25% sibling discount applies to both daycare and Kids' Club.
Summer belongs to its own program. Camp Capitoland is a day camp for kids entering kindergarten through eighth grade, with weekly and daily rates and no minimum day requirement. Middle schoolers can apply to The Blue Zone, a scholarship and leadership track. Throughout the year, the Children's Center hosts Parents' Night Out, a Fall Festival, and SummerFest. A current fundraising campaign is replacing playground equipment that has been in use since 1983.
A Mission That Reaches Every State and Forty-Four Countries
Capitoland tracks its worldwide reach with three numbers: forty-plus years, fifty states, and forty-four countries. Locally, the church partners with the River Food Pantry, the Salvation Army of Dane County, Care Net, the Elizabeth House, Teen Challenge, Youth With A Mission, and Babies & Beyond. Capitoland also runs its own 4:12 Young Adults Group for adults in their twenties and thirties, and hosts a Christmas Giving Tree and a community Easter Egg Hunt each year.
Beyond Wisconsin, Capitoland has helped start new churches in Baraboo, Lima Union, Milton, Monroe, Stoughton, and Waunakee, as well as in Phoenix, Arizona, and Pompano Beach, Florida. Internationally, the church supports work in Canada, Ghana, Haiti, Honduras, India, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Liberia, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, Rwanda, Scotland, South Africa, Togo, and Uganda. Liberia is the deepest partnership, with thirteen churches, two orphanages, and three schools. Other named partners include Changing Your World Ministries, Regeneration International, Empowered to Restore, Impact Ministries International in Honduras, and Time of Refreshing.
Capitoland says every dollar given goes directly to programs and missions. Gifts fund local food pantries, job coaching, and counseling, along with international projects like drilling water wells in Liberia and providing shelter for children rescued from trafficking in the Philippines. Giving is available online through Cash App, Venmo, and PayPal, or by check made payable to Capitoland at capitoland.com/give.
Love God, Love People, Make Disciples, Reach Our City
Capitoland summarizes its life together around four commitments. Love God is rooted in the belief that God is all-powerful, all-knowing, ever-present, unchanging, and worthy of trust. Love People expresses a commitment to honor and invest in people, extending grace regardless of race, gender, or background. Make Disciples is the daily work of helping each person discover and develop the gifts they have been given. Reach Our City is the church's way of saying that its mission extends beyond Madison, through the school, the daycare, and the missions network, to anyone searching for connection and purpose in God.
