A Blended Service with A Cappella Roots, on the Corner of Campbell and Victor

The Campbell Church of Christ sits at 1075 West Campbell Avenue, just inside the bend where Campbell Avenue meets Victor. Set in the heart of Silicon Valley's Campbell neighborhood, the congregation has shaped itself around the rhythms of that place: long commutes, demanding jobs, and a constant pull toward isolation. Silicon Valley is an amazing place to live but can be relentless, mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Its answer is a community that promises to walk, love, and pray with people through those pressures.

Sunday mornings revolve around two identical services at 8:25 and 10:45 a.m. (Pacific Time), with Bible classes for every age filling the 9:45 hour in between. The worship is "blended": the Church of Christ tradition of a cappella congregational singing is kept at the center, but worshipers will also hear instrumental arrangements alongside it. Worship Minister Jeff Dumo shapes a service that includes communion, immersive congregational singing, and a Bible-focused message from Preaching and Teaching Minister Shon Smith. A current teaching series, "Above All," runs alongside a Spotify audio companion called "Songs for the Soul" and a study theme called "B.L.E.S.S."

For those who cannot be in the building, services are livestreamed from 8:25 to 9:35 a.m. Each week's worship playlist is posted on Spotify, and the teaching is released afterward as a YouTube video and a Spotify podcast. The Welcome Center sits at the entrance of the building and serves first-time and returning guests: coffee is poured there, children are checked in there, and a volunteer will answer questions about the service, the schedule, or the ministry lineup. Office hours run Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and the main phone line, (408) 378-4900, is answered during those hours.

Kid Zone: A Six-Year Walk Through the Whole Bible

Children from infants through fifth grade are gathered each Sunday for Kid Zone, the children's ministry led by Marian Parker, the church's Executive Minister and Children's Minister, alongside Preschool Ministry Director Donna McKenzie and Elementary Ministry Director Amanda Davis. The team works from a six-year curriculum that walks every child through the entire Bible, from creation through the life of Jesus and into Revelation. Each unit is studied for about six weeks, and the teaching rotates through a series of immersive environments designed to match how children actually learn.

Those environments are named Sacred Stories, Science, Game, Cafe, Cinema, and Art. In Sacred Stories, children approach faith through story, wonder, and play. In the Science studio, hands-on experiments show how the natural world confirms the Bible's words. The Game studio is where kids burn energy and learn scripture at the same time. In the Cafe studio, they learn how Campbell serves its neighbors and then practice that service themselves. The Cinema studio invites children to act out Bible stories or use puppets to retell them, and the Art studio gives them space to draw, paint, sculpt, and respond creatively to what they have heard.

Every Sunday, elementary children attend the first part of the morning service with their families and are then dismissed, just before the sermon, for Children's Church. Younger children, from nursery through preschool, gather for a short, music-filled interactive Bible lesson during the 9:45 Bible class hour. Childcare is also available for infants through two-year-olds during the service. Safety at Kid Zone is built around a secure check-in system at the Welcome Center, where parents receive matching identification stickers. Every volunteer leader is screened and background-checked, and all volunteers serve in teams of two.

Campbell Student Ministry: Roots That Intertwine Like Redwoods

Middle and high schoolers gather for Campbell Student Ministry (CSM), led by Student Ministers Lauren Shrader and Jonah Wong. The ministry borrows its imagery from California's coastal redwoods: trees whose roots run shallow but stay upright because they fuse together with the roots of other trees. The point is that students were never meant to walk alone.

CSM meets during the 9:45 a.m. Bible class hour in Building 2's CSM room, where students dig into scripture, worship together, and build friendships that carry through the week. For older students, a Student Leadership Team (SLT) meets on Wednesday evenings for high school juniors and seniors, combining Bible study with a new leadership trait each session. A separate Middle School Girls Bible Study also meets on Wednesday evenings, and the ministry gathers for a fall retreat each year.

Shrader, who holds a degree in Bible and Theology with an emphasis in Preaching and Student Ministry from Lipscomb University and came to Campbell in January 2020 after nearly five years at 4th Avenue Church of Christ in Tennessee, and Wong, who joined in June 2026 after graduating from Pepperdine with a degree in Philosophy and a minor in Nonprofit Management, share the ministry. Wong's path through Pepperdine's Office of Spiritual Life sharpened his focus on helping students discover their gifts and put them to work for the kingdom of God.

Young Adults in the Living Room

For college-age and twenty-something adults, the church's young adults ministry meets in a space simply called the Living Room. The goal is to help young adults discover a higher purpose and become influencers who impact their workplaces, communities, and the world as messengers of the gospel.

Ministry Leaders Ruth Langa and Asa Kusuma lead the group. Langa, a mother of two, brings years of worship leadership and a love of obstacle course racing to her role. Kusuma, a longtime Bay Area software engineer and father of two daughters, hosts outdoor adventures, mountain sports, and backyard grilling events as a way of drawing young adults together. The Living Room gathers for regular connection times and joins the wider church for Sunday worship.

Women, Moms, and MomCo

Women's ministry at Campbell is built around weekly Bible studies, MomCo gatherings, and seasonal events. MomCo is a Thursday-morning community for mothers of children from newborn through school age, meeting from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on the first and third Thursday of each month in the Oak Room on the church campus. Free childcare is offered, and registration helps the team plan ahead.

MomCo is led by Amanda Rodoni, who also serves as the church's Ministry Administrator overseeing Children's Ministry and Guest Relations, with Children's Minister Marian Parker walking alongside the group as a mentor. A weekly Tuesday Women's Bible Study, running from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the CSM room, walks women through studies such as the "Experiencing God" curriculum. The Women's Ministry is shaped by leaders Annette Walls and Dianne Robinson.

One Ministry, Young at Heart, and Other Adult Communities

One Ministry is Campbell's community for single adults, run by and for singles who want to use their unique life position, creativity, and energy to serve God. Game nights and seasonal gatherings bring the group together in the Oak Room, with JD Sanders leading the ministry.

Young at Heart gathers the church's seniors and "young at heart" adults for fellowship, ministry, and mutual support, with a regular potluck that brings the group together around the table. Grace Notes, led by Shirley Sloan, is another of the church's smaller adult communities. The Sunday Bible class hour includes a class called Unbroken Faith, a discussion and support group for parents and caregivers of someone with special needs, taught by Danielle Patterson.

Care Ministry, FriendSpeak, and the Front Lines of Mercy

On the second and fourth Saturday of each month, from noon to 2 p.m., Campbell opens its parking lot and building as a free food pantry in partnership with City Team Ministries and Second Harvest Food Bank. Anyone in need can register with a photo ID and proof of residence and receive a free membership card. Each visit includes about two 17-pound bags of dry groceries, thirty to forty pounds of fresh produce, and four to six pounds of meat. The Care Ministry effort is led by Chad Nesmith, alongside the church's audio-visual team.

Church members also serve the men of City Team Renew and the women of the House of Grace, both residential recovery programs that tackle homelessness and addictive behavior. Each year Campbell volunteers take the men and women on camping and whitewater rafting adventures. FriendSpeak, the church's English-language learning ministry led by Ming Yang, matches English learners with fluent or native speakers who use the Bible as the basis for friendly conversation and cross-cultural friendship.

Missions at Home and Around the World

Campbell views local mercy work as central to its calling, following Matthew 25's call to feed the hungry, welcome strangers, and care for those in recovery. Globally, the church partners with REMADE, the U.S. support community for Made In The Streets, a thirty-year ministry serving more than 60,000 street children in Nairobi, Kenya, meeting their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs and equipping them to earn a living and start a new life. Each year the church also sends a team to Mexico to help build a home for a family in need over the course of a week-long trip, applying for the team opens months in advance.

A long-standing local partner is Campbell Christian Schools, founded in 1967 by the Campbell Church of Christ. The church sees the school as a missions partner, walking alongside CCS families and students who may not yet know the story of Jesus.

What the Church Believes

The church's statement of faith centers on the historic Christian doctrines: one God in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; the Bible as the inspired and authoritative Word of God; humanity's universal sin and need for grace; salvation by grace through faith; the confession of Jesus as Lord and baptism as a believer's first acts of obedience; the bodily resurrection of the dead; and the promise of eternal life or eternal separation from God.

The church's vision is "Go Make Disciples of All Nations," and it exists "to glorify God, by knowing His Son Jesus as Lord and Savior, by growing in His Word and relationship with His people, and by going into the community to share the good news of Christ's love." Its "game plan" for that mission is short and concrete: create an invitation culture, practice radical hospitality, teach and train in the ways of Jesus, lovingly serve others, and live on mission.

Shepherds, Ministers, and a Church to Call Home

Spiritual oversight of the church is shared among several shepherd couples who serve as elders: Scott and Linda Pence, Ken and Donna McKenzie, Ernie and Carla Juarez, Ming and Ulrike Yang, Nate and Michele Sanders, Andy and Annette Walls, Sandeep and Renae Shah, Rick and Debbie Oswald, and Bob and Lisa Fanjoy.

The ministerial staff is led by Shon Smith, who joined Campbell in September 2020 after more than thirty years of ministry in Oklahoma, Texas, Alabama, and Illinois, and who holds both undergraduate and graduate degrees in Bible and Ministry from Oklahoma Christian University. Marian Parker leads children's ministry and serves as executive minister. Jeff Dumo leads worship. Lauren Shrader and Jonah Wong share student ministry. Ruth Langa carries both social media and young adult ministry.

There is no dress code. Communion is served each Sunday. The parking lot entrance is a half-block off Campbell Avenue down Victor, and the Welcome Center team helps with children's check-in and any questions about the day. Those who would rather start from the couch can join the livestream on Sunday mornings, then visit during the week for a coffee and a conversation with one of the ministers.
