Holly Calvary Church sits at the north end of the village of Holly, Michigan, just a quarter mile north of Grange Hall Road, where a two-campus congregation worships each Sunday in both contemporary and traditional styles. The church identifies itself as "A Global Methodist Community," rooted in scriptural holiness and a Wesleyan vision of discipleship, and it extends that mission into the surrounding communities of Holly, Davisburg, Fenton, Grand Blanc, and Rose Township.
For thirteen years, Pastor Cliff Schroeder and his wife Rachel have walked with this congregation, and the church now spans two locations. The Holly Campus on North Holly Road serves as the main hub, while Christ Church of Davisburg - launched in 2025 - extends the church's reach south into the Davisburg community. Between the two campuses, a busy food pantry, an active children's ministry, and a growing slate of programs, Holly Calvary is working to be what its leaders call "a church without walls."
Two Campuses, One Family
The Holly Campus at 15010 N. Holly Road is the heart of the congregation. The entrance sits off Quick Road on the north side of the property, with the sanctuary doors closest to that street. Two worship services gather on Sunday mornings: a 9 AM contemporary service led by guitar and a band, and an 11 AM traditional service built around the church's history of hymn singing. Both services share the same biblical preaching and a relaxed, come-as-you-are atmosphere.
Christ Church of Davisburg is the church's second campus, meeting at 803 Broadway in Davisburg. After five years without regular worship, the sanctuary reopened on Easter Sunday 2025 with a vision of planting a new faith community in the area. The Davisburg campus now gathers at 11:45 AM on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month. Its guitar-led contemporary service draws on songs heard on Christian radio and centers on the same strong biblical preaching as Holly, with the goal of proclaiming the truth of the Scriptures and raising up the Light of Christ before Davisburg and the surrounding communities.
Christ Church is also a mission campus in its own right, committed to being a vital influence in Davisburg. The church provides opportunities for Christian learning, Christian services, and activities of fellowship, while partnering with community non-profits to support a united mission in the area.
What a Sunday Morning Looks Like
Visitors at Holly enter through the north double doors and are greeted by a friendly welcome team. Everything needed for worship - lyrics, scripture readings, and service prompts - is projected, so no one has to flip through a hymnal or bulletin. People who like to dress up and people who come in jeans are equally at home; the church's simple guidance is "come as you are."
The 9 AM service is the contemporary option, anchored in a biblically and theologically rich use of modern Christian music that gives voice to glorify God. The 11 AM traditional service primarily uses rich hymns that proclaim biblical and theological truth. Both services lean on strong biblical preaching and teaching.
Children are always welcome in worship, and the church encourages families to sit together. Following the worship hour, children in kindergarten through fifth grade move to their own Sunday School room for age-appropriate learning about who Jesus is and how he makes a difference in their lives.
Online Worship
For those who cannot attend in person, audio and video replays of Holly's worship services are posted through the church's Media page and YouTube channel. The YouTube channel hosts recent services and the full sermon archive, making worship accessible to anyone with a connection.
HCC Kids: Sunday School and Truth Trackers
Holly Calvary welcomes children as full participants in the life of the church, and the HCC Kids ministry walks with them from kindergarten through fifth grade. On Sunday mornings, families worship together, and kids move to their own classroom after the service. Lessons are age-appropriate, interactive, and designed to reach a range of learning styles - the goal is for kids to understand who Jesus is and how he can change their lives, and to have a lot of fun along the way.
Midweek programming comes through Truth Trackers, the Wednesday Kids' Club. From 6:00 to 7:30 PM during the school year, kids gather for games, crafts, and lessons that teach them about God and his wonderful love for them. First-time visitors are welcomed at a Kids Check-In station, where the welcome team meets the family, checks children into class, and answers any questions.
Safety is taken seriously. Every children's ministry volunteer is screened, trained, and has passed a background check. Nursery workers are trained, experienced, and certified, creating a positive and safe atmosphere for the youngest members of the church family.
The Holly Calvary Food Pantry
Through a partnership with Gleaners Community Food Bank and the generosity of congregation and community donations, the Holly Calvary Food Pantry serves hundreds of families each year. The pantry operates three times a week - Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 AM to 2 PM, and Thursday evenings from 6 to 8 PM - and welcomes volunteers who want to help feed the community. The church's vision is a community in which everyone has access to sufficient nutritious food, framing access to nutritious food as a basic human right.
Bible, Beliefs, and the Methodist Heritage
Holly Calvary identifies as a Global Methodist community, with a mission of "Making disciples of Jesus Christ and spreading scriptural holiness across the globe." The church's vision is "connecting people to people and people to Jesus through the gift of life-giving relationships," and its stated values are to love God with all one's being, to love and serve one's neighbor, and to live as Jesus' witness in all one says and does.
The church holds to historic Christian convictions and confesses them in its own voice. It teaches that the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments are the inspired Word of God and the source of knowledge about God and salvation. It confesses one triune God - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - each fully God and worthy of praise. God the Father is the creator who relentlessly pursues his creation and desires relationship with every person. Jesus Christ is uniquely the Son, fully God and fully human, born of Mary; his death on the cross and resurrection from the dead make forgiveness and reconciliation with God possible. The Holy Spirit is received at the moment of faith, speaks to believers, guides them, brings them close to God, and empowers them for worship, service, prayer, witness, and Christlike character.
Salvation comes through confession of sin, repentance, and trust in Jesus Christ - not earned by works, but offered by grace. Believers grow in holiness as they walk with Christ, and the church teaches that God desires all to spend eternity with him, while warning that those who have not accepted Jesus' offer risk eternity apart from him.
The church celebrates an open communion table, welcoming all who believe in Jesus as Savior and Lord to share in this remembrance of his suffering and death. Baptism is the public sign of God's covenant, freely offered, and may occur at any age. The congregation vows to nurture and support those being baptized - adults or infants - as they enter this covenant relationship by grace.
Sermons and the New Testament in a Year
Pastor Cliff Schroeder preaches most Sundays at Holly Calvary, working steadily through books of the Bible in a style described as relevant to daily life and anchored in strong biblical preaching. Recent series have walked through Genesis chapter by chapter - from "Genesis 1-5" through "Restoration: Genesis 32-33" - and through the Gospel of Luke, with messages like "The One," "Sell It All," "Till the Soil," and "Your Faith Has Made You Well." Topical series on prayer, transformation, and following Jesus round out the rotation.
The church offers a "Read the New Testament in a Year" plan built around five chapters per week. Each Sunday sermon includes an overview of that week's reading and a deep dive into one of the passages. A daily devotion tied to the sermon is posted online for the week, helping the congregation stay engaged with the same passage all seven days. The full sermon archive is browsable by topic, scripture book, and speaker, and the YouTube channel hosts videos of recent sermons going back through the years.
The Wider Life of the Church
Beyond Sunday worship, Holly Calvary's calendar is full of the kind of programming that turns a weekly service into a year-round community. The church hosts Bible 101 for newcomers, a Wesley Class for those wanting to deepen their understanding of Methodist theology, and ongoing Bible studies. A Membership Class walks people through what it means to belong to a Methodist church, while Anchor Prayer offers regular gatherings for those who want to pray together.
Women in Ministry is an active part of the church's life, with regular women's events, fellowship, and a recurring women's retreat. Men's ministry, marriage ministry, young adult gatherings, family events, and youth ministry all have a place on the calendar. The church also runs Friends with Needs, a Craft Circle, and recreational gatherings like Pickleball that bring neighbors together through the church's doors.
Small groups and Bible studies are a growing priority. ConnectGroups, Bible studies, service teams, and mission teams provide ways to learn, serve, and grow in relationship with others. A Bible Study and Fellowship hub is in development as part of that effort.
Serving and World Wide Missions
Holly Calvary describes itself as a "church without walls," committed to going outside its building to reach the lost and broken, and to see its city changed. Locally, this looks like the food pantry, the launch of Christ Church in Davisburg, and partnership with community non-profits through the Davisburg campus. The church supports local, national, and international missionaries, leaders, and missional partners through both hands-on involvement and missional giving, aiming to see lives transformed through life-giving ministry and mission.
The church also runs a "Pray & Go" emphasis - 50 days of evangelism aimed at inviting people to encounter Jesus and changing the community - and posts daily devotions tied to each week's sermon.
The Pastoral Team
Pastor Cliff Schroeder and his wife Rachel came to Holly Calvary thirteen years ago. He is described as a pastor with a heart for people and a love for Jesus, eager to see others experience the life that comes from trusting him. Youth Pastor Keith Cullen supports the preaching and youth ministry of the church. Michelle Conroy directs the choir, bringing her many musical talents to lead the congregation in praise and lift worship to God. An administrative assistant keeps the office running, greeting visitors with a warm and friendly welcome during the week and assisting with everything from food pantry questions to general inquiries.
Together, the staff and a Governance Board of nine members - Karen Miscovich, Dave Goodrich, Guy Winohradsky, Heather Goulish, Janet Peart, Janet Shiel, Janet Stack-Miller, Lindsay Germaine, Rachel Ray, along with Pastor Cliff - oversee the life of the church.
Giving and Practical Information
Giving supports the church's mission, ministry, and service to the community. Electronic giving is available through a secure online platform, with options for one-time or recurring gifts at any interval. Text giving is available by sending a dollar amount to 844.947.0268, and gifts may also be made by mail or through a bank's online bill-pay service using the church's address. During in-person services, offering envelopes are available in the pew seating.
The church office is open Monday through Wednesday from 9 AM to 2 PM. Visitors planning a first visit can fill out an online Plan a Visit form and be met at the front door, given a tour of the building, and introduced to the ministries available for every age. The office can be reached at 248.634.9711 or by email at hollycalvarychurch@gmail.com. Those with questions about what the church believes may reach Pastor Cliff at hollycalvarypastor@gmail.com.
Whether someone arrives in jeans or in a suit, they find the same greeting, the same open Bible, and the same invitation to encounter Jesus with a community that takes seriously its calling to love God, love neighbor, and live as Jesus' witness in all it says and does.
