Calvary Baptist Church sits along U.S. Highway 60 on the west side of Republic, Missouri, a congregation that has built its identity around expository Bible teaching, family-focused ministry, and a network of small groups called Life Groups. The church runs two Sunday morning services, a robust children's and student ministry, and reaches across the Springfield metro with ministries for women, men, seniors, and the broader community. Calvary is an independent Baptist church that chooses to cooperate with the Southern Baptist Convention for missions and doctrinal fidelity.
Sunday Mornings on Highway 60
Two Sunday morning services, at 9:00 and 10:30 AM, anchor the life of the church. Worship is led by a team that includes a Worship Minister, a Media & Design director, an Audio Visual Tech, and a Student Ministry Worship Intern, suggesting a contemporary style with skilled production. Sermons are recorded each week and posted to the church's YouTube channel, with a podcast feed available for ongoing listening. Giving is handled online through NCS Services, and event registration, Life Group enrollment, prayer requests, and family check-in all run through the Church Center app.
First-time guests are met by a Welcome Team and directed to a CONNECT HUB, where staff and volunteers will help with directions, kids' check-in, finding a Life Group, or simply grabbing a free coffee. The dress code is intentionally low-key. Calvary is "a casual, authentic environment" where jeans and a t-shirt fit right in alongside Sunday best. Most people dress for comfort, and newcomers are encouraged to do the same.
Weekly rhythms beyond the Sunday gathering include Wednesday night Student Midweek, Wednesday morning and evening women's studies, and a wide web of Life Groups meeting in homes across the area on different nights of the week.
Calvary Kids: Infants Through Sixth Grade
Calvary Kids runs during both Sunday services and is organized by age-graded classrooms. Nursery and preschool rooms are open during each worship hour. For elementary children, the two services feature a split schedule designed to keep kids engaged:
- 1st-3rd Grade attend a worship-oriented class called Gear Zone at 9:00, then move into classroom Lifegroups at 10:30.
- 4th-6th Grade start in classroom Lifegroups at 9:00, then transition to Gear Zone worship at 10:30.
The ministry's stated mission is to "provide a fun and safe environment where kids are loved, Biblical truths are taught and strong foundations in Christ are formed," with a vision of leading kids "to Know Jesus and Change the World." Children's Minister Tyler Boyer oversees the program, supported by two Children's Ministry Assistants. Check-in is handled through the Church Center app, where families can register once and then use mobile check-in to print name tags and parent pick-up tags at the door.
Calvary Students: Grades 7 Through 12
Calvary Students exists "to lead students and parents to Know Jesus and Change the World." The ministry meets in its own Student Center, located next door to the main worship building.
- Sunday Mornings: Students join the 9:00 AM worship service in the main building, then walk over to the Student Center at 10:30 for Life Groups.
- Wednesday Midweek: 6:00 to 7:45 PM at the Student Center, a separate gathering just for students.
The ministry is led by Student Minister Connor Dougherty, with a Student Ministry Worship Intern and a Worship/Student Ministry Assistant on the team. Parents can text "students" to 417-212-5909 for details and updates. The student ministry maintains its own Facebook page and Instagram account for ongoing communication.
Life Groups: Small Groups Across Republic
Life Groups are the church's small-group ministry, and they are central to adult discipleship at Calvary. Groups meet in homes and on campus at varying times, with enrollment options including open sign-up and request-to-join. Roughly twenty couples and individuals lead Life Groups, suggesting a healthy and active network of groups.
Groups meet on Sunday mornings between or after the worship services, and on weeknights throughout the week. Life Groups are also the structure used for student discipleship on Sunday mornings at 10:30 in the Student Center.
Women's Ministry and Embrace Grace
Calvary Women's Ministry is "committed to equipping women of all generations to know Jesus and change the world," with the stated purpose of fulfilling that mission "in the church, our homes, our communities and beyond through discipleship, mentoring, Bible study, prayer, missions, fellowship and fun."
Wednesday evenings host a key piece of that mission in Room 405: Embrace Grace, a support and encouragement ministry for single and pregnant women, meeting at 6:00 PM. The church also runs a Wednesday Morning Bible Study that works through verse-by-verse books of the Bible (a recent study has been Jen Wilkin's God of Deliverance on Exodus 1-18). On Sunday mornings, two women's Life Groups meet on campus, one at 9:00 in Room 401 led by Kristin Woods, and another at 10:30 in Room 400 led by Meagan Lawrence.
Men's Ministry
Calvary maintains a Men's Ministry as one of its four primary ministry branches alongside Students, Kids, and Women. Groups meet at varying times and locations, and men's ministry is also a thread that runs through several of the Life Groups.
Senior Adults and Pastoral Care
Denny Marr serves as Senior Adults & Pastoral Care Pastor, shepherding older members of the congregation and walking with families through hospital visits, bereavement, and other pastoral needs. A network of deacons supports that work. Twenty deacon couples currently serve in that role.
What We Believe
Calvary holds to the Baptist Faith & Message 2000 as its confessional statement, with four essential beliefs framing that larger document:
- The Lord Jesus Christ is the only Savior (John 14:6) and the true head of His church (Colossians 1:18).
- The Bible is the inspired, error-free Word of God, the supreme authority for Christian life and practice (Psalm 19:7-9; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:21).
- The church is organized around congregational governance and the priesthood of all believers.
- As an independent congregation, Calvary freely cooperates with the Southern Baptist Convention for cooperative missions and doctrinal fidelity.
The full BF&M 2000 covers the Scriptures, the nature of God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), humanity, salvation (regeneration, justification, sanctification, and glorification), God's purpose of grace, the church, baptism and the Lord's Supper, the Lord's Day, the Kingdom, last things, evangelism and missions, education, stewardship, cooperation, the Christian and the social order, peace and war, religious liberty, and the family. Baptism is by immersion of believers, the Lord's Supper is a memorial act, and both are ordinances of the local church.
The Calvary Library
The Calvary Library is staffed by volunteers and open to anyone who considers Calvary home. Its shelves include children's classics and first Bible stories, adult Christian fiction, devotionals, and theological books aimed at deepening a reader's walk with Jesus. An online catalogue is available through LibraryCat, and volunteers are happy to help locate specific titles.
Serving at Calvary
The church's serve team is built around four primary ministry teams, each with its own application pathway through Church Center: Calvary Kids, Calvary Students, the Worship & Tech Team, and the Welcome Team. Additional serving happens through Life Group leadership, the library, deacon ministry, and ad hoc committees.
Facility Use and Community
Calvary's campus is available for community use, with a written Facility Use Agreement and a tiered request system. Church members and Life Group leaders use a Ministry Event/Committee Form for church-related events, while a Public Request Form is open to the broader Republic community for birthday parties, baby and wedding showers, sports practices, and similar gatherings.
Getting in Touch
The church office is reached at (417) 732-1405, and the physical address is 804 U.S. HWY 60 W, Republic, MO 65738. A prayer request form is available online for those who would like the pastors and congregation to pray on their behalf. Prospective staff and ministry team volunteers can apply through the Church Center app, which serves as the hub for events, groups, registrations, and giving.
Calvary Baptist Church is a Bible-believing, Bible-teaching congregation that wants to be a useful neighbor on the west side of Republic. Whether the day finds a family settling in for the 9:00 service, a sixth grader heading to Gear Zone, a high schooler meeting up at Midweek, or a single pregnant woman walking into Embrace Grace on a Wednesday night, the aim of the church is the same: to point people to Jesus and to walk alongside them as they follow Him.
