Amelia Baptist Church sits on Brighton Street in Beaumont, Texas, and it is known around the Golden Triangle as a congregation with a simple, three-word pulse: LIVE, LOVE, LEAD. Members describe the church as a multi-generational, multi-cultural, and multi-racial family where everyone is valued and the atmosphere is intentionally casual. The teaching is anchored in the historic Baptist Faith and Message 2000, and the church's tagline sums up the work it is committed to: "Equipping Christ-Centered Families to Love and Serve our Community with the Gospel."
A Sunday Rhythm of Study and Worship
The week begins for members at 9:30 AM on Sunday with Bible study groups for every age, followed by the morning worship service at 10:45 AM. During the Bible study hour, loving and safe childcare is provided for children in Pre-K and under, so parents can attend a class of their own. After Bible study, first graders and older children worship alongside their parents in the sanctuary, while babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and kindergartners may stay in their classes through the worship service. The worship gathering is also livestreamed, so members at home or out of town can join in. A simple, come-as-you-are dress code reflects the casual atmosphere the church wants every visitor to feel.
Amelia Kidz: Where Children Are a Blessing
Children are treated as a treasure, not an interruption, at Amelia. Amelia Kidz provides nursery care for babies and toddlers on Sunday mornings, Sunday school for older kids, and a high-energy Wednesday night program at 6:30 PM full of worship, games, crafts, and Bible study. Staff and volunteers work to create a safe, loving environment where children learn about God and His Word and begin to build a faith of their own. Each year the church organizes a community-wide Easter Celebration with an egg hunt and family festival, a Kids Bible Camp at Timbers Edge Apartments, and a Vacation Bible School or Sports Camp. Older children are encouraged to experience worship with their church family rather than being separated from it, because the church believes children learn to worship God best by worshiping alongside the adults who love them.
Amelia Students: A Place to Belong
The student ministry, called Amelia Students, promises to be "a place of belonging to students from every background." Leaders are committed to teaching the scriptures faithfully and truthfully, even when the message is hard to hear, and to offering honest answers to honest questions. The ministry gathers for Sunday Bible study and worship with the rest of the church, and throughout the year students attend retreats, summer camp, and other student-centered events. Parents and students can reach the ministry through the church's contact channels for questions or prayer needs.
Women's Ministry: Discipleship at Home and Beyond
The women's ministry at Amelia is built around weekly Bible study, a service ministry, and seasonal events that bring women together. Helping Hands, a sewing and knitting group, meets on Mondays at 2:00 PM to make hats, scarves, blankets, and other items that are then given to local hospitals, nursing homes, and other places in the community. A weekly Women's Bible Study led by Casey Ochoa meets on Tuesdays at 6:30 PM at the church and on Zoom. Throughout the year, women take part in conferences and simulcasts such as the She Stands Women's Conference, the Empower Evangelism Conference, and Going Beyond with Priscilla Shirer.
Men of Impact: Discipleship for Husbands, Fathers, and Leaders
The men's ministry, called Men of Impact, gathers men who want to grow as husbands, fathers, and leaders in the church and the community. No matter a man's background, the ministry is open to anyone who wants to be discipled. A weekly Men's Bible Study led by Pastor Jon meets on Tuesdays at 6:30 PM at the church. Men also participate in local evangelistic events like Beast Feast and the Empower Evangelism Conference, along with other service opportunities during the year.
dGroups: Discipleship for Every Age
Small-group discipleship, called dGroups, is at the heart of how Amelia makes mature disciples. Drawing on Jesus' words in John 8:31-32 and Paul's charge in 2 Timothy 2:2 to "commit to faithful men who will be able to teach others also," dGroups meet on Tuesdays at 6:30 PM for every age, providing a setting where believers can study the Word together, pray for one another, and grow in the everyday work of following Jesus.
Wednesday Nights: Prayer First
Wednesday evenings are anchored by a 6:00 PM prayer meeting, which is also broadcast on Facebook Live for those who cannot attend in person. Members and friends are invited to share prayer requests through the church's prayer page, choosing whether their request is shared publicly at the prayer meeting and through text with church members, or kept private and seen only by the pastor, staff, and deacons. After the prayer meeting, Amelia Kidz kicks off at 6:30 PM, giving the whole church a reason to be on campus together.
Amelia on Mission: A Light to the Nations
Missions is woven into the identity of the church. Amelia partners with Michael Gott International (MGI) to send mission teams to Ukraine, visiting cities such as Kyiv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Lviv to share the Gospel. The church also supports members who feel called to other international and domestic trips, including work in places like New Orleans and Guatemala. Financially, Amelia gives to the International Mission Board (IMB) and the North American Mission Board (NAMB) of the Southern Baptist Convention, as well as to the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention (SBTC) and the Golden Triangle Baptist Network (GTBN), the local association of Southern Baptist churches in Southeast Texas. Prayer for unreached people groups and for those who give their lives to reach them is part of the regular rhythm of the church.
What Amelia Believes
Amelia's teaching follows the Baptist Faith and Message 2000, the confession of the Southern Baptist Convention. The church holds that the Bible is the inspired, totally true, and trustworthy Word of God, written by men carried along by the Holy Spirit, and that all Scripture testifies to Christ. There is one living and true God, infinite in holiness, who reveals Himself as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, distinct in person but one in essence. The Son, Jesus Christ, is fully God and fully man, conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, crucified and raised for the redemption of sinners, now exalted at the right hand of God and coming again in glory. The Holy Spirit inspired Scripture, illuminates truth, convicts of sin, regenerates the sinner, baptizes every believer into the Body of Christ, and empowers the church for worship, evangelism, and service.
Salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ and includes regeneration, justification, sanctification, and glorification. The church is described as an autonomous local congregation of baptized believers, governed by Christ under democratic processes, with pastors and deacons as its scriptural officers. Two ordinances are observed: believer's baptism by immersion, and the Lord's Supper, a memorial of the Redeemer's death and an anticipation of His return. The first day of the week is set apart as the Lord's Day for worship and devotion. Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and the Lord's Supper is a symbolic act of obedience in which members, through bread and the fruit of the vine, remember Christ's death and look for His second coming.
Pastor Jon Brinlee and the Staff
Senior Pastor Jon Brinlee was born and raised in Texas and grew up in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex before living in other places, including Europe. He was saved as a teenager through a youth camp and sensed a call to ministry at age 21, entering full-time ministry in 1999. He and his wife, Amanda, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Bible from Louisiana Baptist University in Shreveport, and they have two adult children and one still in school. He teaches the men's Bible study and helps set the tone for a church family that is excited about what God is doing in Beaumont and beyond.
