A San Marco Parish with Deep Jacksonville Roots
Set on tree-shaded grounds at 4171 Hendricks Avenue in Jacksonville's San Marco neighborhood, All Saints Episcopal Church has been a place of Christian worship and ministry since 1885. The parish describes itself as a welcoming family of Christians whose mission is to worship and serve God, growing spiritually, sharing faith, and making known Christ's love through word and deed. All Saints is a member of the Episcopal Diocese of Florida, part of the worldwide Anglican Communion whose customs grew from the Church of England in 1549. The Book of Common Prayer stands at the center of parish life, guiding prayer, worship, and unity.
Sunday Worship: A Quiet Eucharist and a Joyful Choral Service
Sunday worship at All Saints takes two distinct forms. At 8:00 a.m., a spoken Holy Eucharist offers a quiet, contemplative start to the day; during the Season of Lent, this service uses the Rite I liturgy. At 10:30 a.m., a choral Holy Eucharist fills the church with music from the Parish Choir, the St. Nicholas Choristers, the Handbell Ensemble, and the Guitar Ensemble. Both services are open to all who are baptized, and those who do not wish to receive communion are invited to come to the altar rail and cross their arms over their chest for a blessing.
Wednesday Mornings: Eucharist and Bible Study
On Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m., an intimate spoken Holy Eucharist is held, followed at 10:00 a.m. by a Bible Study in the Christian Education Building. The group makes its way through various books of the Bible, seeking a deeper understanding of Scripture in a small-group setting.
Children at the Heart of the Parish
Children are welcomed at every service at All Saints. The nursery building is open from 8:00 a.m. to noon each Sunday, and Sunday School and Christian Formation meet from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. for Pre-K 4 through high school in the Christian Education Building. During the 10:30 service, all children are invited forward for a brief children's sermon, and afterward they may follow the Director of Children's Ministry to Children's Chapel for activities and learning during the sermon. Children return in time for communion, though they are always welcome to stay in church with their parents. Gwendolyn Mehigan serves as Director of Children's and Youth Ministry.
CREW: Wednesday Night Youth Group
Middle and high school students gather as CREW, a Wednesday-night youth group described as a welcoming and inclusive community where young people explore, grow, and strengthen their faith through fellowship. The 6th through 12th graders meet in the Christian Education Building from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. for dinner, games, and discussion.
Adult Christian Formation and Fellowship
The Adult Christian Formation program at All Saints offers several ongoing opportunities to grow. On Sunday mornings from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m., adults gather in the parish hall for Adult Sunday School, with breakfast served at 9:00 a.m. A Moms Group meets on the first Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the parish hall for fellowship and encouragement. The Men of All Saints gather on the second Monday at 6:30 p.m., bringing something to grill and a beverage for a time of community and formation. On Thursdays, gentle yoga meets at 8:15 a.m. and chair yoga at 9:30 a.m.
A Music Program with Something for Every Voice
Music is woven into the life of the parish. The 10:30 Choral Eucharist showcases the Parish Choir, the St. Nicholas Choristers (a children's choir), the Handbell Ensemble, and a Guitar Ensemble. Dr. Michael Mastronicola serves as Director of Music, with Karen McDonald at the piano. The parish also maintains a long-running Music Through the Ages program that highlights the church's musical heritage.
Baptisms, Weddings, and Funerals
All Saints hosts baptisms on five occasions throughout the year: the Feast of the Baptism of Our Lord, the Great Vigil of Easter, the Feast of Pentecost, All Saints Sunday, and the Bishop's Visit. Families interested in baptism are invited to be in touch with Fr. Quinn Parman. The parish also welcomes weddings and provides a Wedding Customary and a Funeral Planning Customary to help families prepare for these life events.
A Parish That Reaches Beyond Its Walls
Outreach flows from the parish hall and the adjoining Christian Education Building. The church runs a five-star intergenerational daycare center on its campus, and its ministries reach the homebound, the underserved, the homeless, and the hungry throughout Northeast Florida. Classes and training are offered continuously so that members can discover their gifts and live as Christ's disciples in the world.
From a Railway Waiting Room to a Sun-Lit Sanctuary
The parish's story began in 1885, when a small gathering of Episcopalians first met in the shared terminal waiting room of the Jacksonville, St. Augustine and Halifax River Railway and the St. John's Ferry. Within five years the first All Saints church was built further south on Hendricks Avenue. By 1955 the parish had outgrown that home and moved to its present site, worshiping in what is now the Parish Hall while a larger church and Christian Education Building were constructed. The present sanctuary, with its sun-lit stained glass chancel window, was finished and consecrated in 1965, and the pace has not slowed in the decades since.
Leadership and Visiting
The parish is led by The Rev'd Quinn Parman, Rector, and The Rev'd Teresa Seagle, Associate Priest. The Rev'd Quinn Parman writes regular reflections for the parish, and the church office can be reached at 904-737-8488. Sunday services are livestreamed on YouTube, and online giving is available through the church's Realm portal. Newcomers are encouraged to visit, attend either Sunday service, and see how the parish is calling them to be a disciple of Jesus Christ.
