Alive Church on North La Cholla
Alive Church meets on North La Cholla Boulevard in the northwest of Tucson, between the Tortolita foothills and the residential streets of Oro Valley. Lead Pastor Dr. Jeffrey Allen Love and a sizable staff team run a non-denominational congregation that has chosen a simple organizing idea: every age hears the same teaching each week, at a level that fits them. The church's motto is "Find Your God-Given Purpose. Start thriving in your faith!"
The church's mission statement is short and rhythmic. Alive Church exists to lead people to Jesus, train people to follow Jesus, and send people to lead for Jesus. Three services gather on the weekend, a kids ministry and a youth ministry run alongside them, and a wide network of small groups meets in homes and online across the Tucson area. A free Bible with a year-long discipleship plan is given away by the thousands. Local charities in Tucson and missionary families in Panama, Mexico, and South Asia are supported through regular giving. Alive Church also broadcasts every service on a livestream.
Weekend Services on La Cholla Boulevard
Three services gather on the campus at 9662 N La Cholla Blvd. Saturday worship begins at 4:00 pm, and two Sunday services follow at 9:30 am and 11:00 am. Visitors who want a guided introduction can fill out a Plan Your Visit form, and anyone can submit a Connection Card to share prayer requests or next steps.
The services are livestreamed for those who cannot attend in person. The Saturday and Sunday gatherings use contemporary worship led by Worship Pastor Brad Wetherbee and Worship Experience Director Kristi Love. Teaching rotates among the Lead Pastor and the Teaching Pastor. Bible-based preaching is the focus. Communion is offered as a shared meal of remembrance, and baptism is celebrated when people are ready to take that step.
Children and students have their own environments running at the same time as adult services. Families can check in kids before the service and pick them up afterward, which means parents are free to focus on worship and the message.
One Voice: The Same Message at Three Levels
The most distinctive thing about Alive Church is its One Voice curriculum. Every week, adults, youth, and kids learn the same passage and the same bottom line, tailored to their stage of life. After the service, families can sit at the dinner table and talk about what they each heard, because the Scripture and the theme are identical. "After every service, you will all be on the same page to apply the teachings to your lives so you can grow as a family and a church community!"
Alive Church gives the One Voice materials away for free. Other pastors and church leaders can download the weekly adult, youth, and kids content and use it in their own churches. The phrase the staff uses is "Teach with One Voice," and the program is run as a ministry of generosity rather than a paid product.
The Life Transformation Bible
If One Voice is the spine of the teaching program, the Life Transformation Bible is the discipleship program that goes with it. Dr. Jeffrey Allen Love wrote a fifty-two-week Discipleship plan that is bound into the Bible. A family or individual reads a daily passage, answers reflection questions, and works through the plan over a year. The Bible is given away for free to anyone who asks for one.
There are three editions. The Adult Life Transformation Bible drives the Sunday preaching and small group curriculum. The Youth Edition is built for middle and high school students, with daily readings that connect to the same weekly teaching. The Kids Edition is designed for parents and children to read together, with age-appropriate activities built around the same themes.
The adult daily readings are also available as a podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and Amazon Music, so listeners can follow along during a commute or a workout. Bibles can be requested, and giving to the Life Transformation fund helps the church keep Bibles in stock and ship them out.
One devotional series by the Lead Pastor walks readers through thirty-five days of reflections on the Trinity, Scripture, salvation, baptism, communion, and the church. The devotionals are published and pair naturally with the Bible plan.
Alive Kids Ministry
Alive Kids runs every weekend during all three services. Children are placed in one of three environments based on age, and each environment has a different feel.
Nursery is built around low teacher-to-child ratios and a calm atmosphere. Volunteers are trained to care for the youngest children, who listen to music and hear simple faith songs. Early Childhood uses puppets, skits, video, and music to introduce Bible stories at a level preschoolers can follow, with a medium ratio and hands-on activities. Elementary introduces higher-energy video content and challenges kids to grow in the Word, complete Challenge Cards, and take their faith outside the classroom.
Each environment teaches the same One Voice passage the adults are hearing, so families end the week on the same page. Kids Pastor Michael Bauschka oversees the ministry. Free Kids Life Transformation Bibles are available for families who want to read the daily readings together at home. Parent resources on baptism, communion, and tithing are available so families can continue the conversation at home during the week.
Alive Youth Ministry
Alive Youth is the middle and high school ministry, led by Next Gen Pastor Kyle Hammond. The youth follow the same One Voice teaching as the adults and kids each week, with a version of the Life Transformation Bible built just for students.
The weekly gathering is called One Night, and it runs every Tuesday at 6:00 pm on the Alive Church campus. Students start with dinner together, hear the teaching for the week, and then break into small groups to talk through what they heard. Youth small groups meet during the week for students in sixth through twelfth grade, with sign-up available.
Special events layer on top of the weekly rhythm. Past examples have included Youth Jump Nights at local trampoline parks, where students bring first-time guests and enter a drawing for gift cards. These are the kind of nights designed to draw new students into the community.
Small Groups Across Tucson
Small groups are the backbone of community at Alive Church. A small group is described as a gathering of people in a similar stage of life who want to experience community and a deeper connection in faith, digging into biblical truth and how to apply it to daily life. Groups meet in homes, at the church, and online across the Tucson area, with several meeting on the northwest side where the church is located.
The current list includes an adults group on Mondays in the Thornydale and Overton area, an adults group on Tuesdays near Sunset and El Camino Del Cerro, a parents-with-young-kids group on Wednesdays at the church, a young adults group for ages eighteen to twenty-four on Wednesdays at the church, a men's group on Wednesday mornings at the church, an adults group on Thursdays near Naranja and La Cañada, a women's group on Thursdays at the church, a young adults group on Saturdays near Cortaro, an adults group on Sundays at the church, and an adults group that meets online on Sunday afternoons. Several groups provide childcare. Sign-up is available.
Each week, small groups take a deeper dive into the weekend message and focus on equipping one another to live out the mission of the church. Teaching Pastor Joel Hime oversees the groups ministry and is the contact for anyone who wants help finding a place to start.
Local and Global Missions
Alive Church funnels mission support through a fund called Outside Our Walls. The fund is split between local partners in Tucson and global partners around the world.
Locally, the church supports Interfaith Community Services, which helps seniors, people with disabilities, and families in financial crisis achieve stable and independent lives. Gospel Rescue Mission welcomes those who are hungry and hurting, addresses immediate needs, builds relationships, and shares the gospel. GAP Ministries serves children, families, and the broader community in Tucson. Eagles Wings of Grace empowers women who have experienced devastation.
Globally, the church walks alongside several missionary families. Joe and Averyl Morris serve in Panama through a ministry called Jesus To The Needy, helping the hungry, the needy, and the abandoned. Anika Howe works with Youth With A Mission in Mexico, a well-known missions organization. Kadi and David serve in South Asia, focused on taking the name of Jesus to people who have never heard it. The Alive Church pastors also work alongside more than eighty pastors in Puerto Peñasco and Hermosillo, Mexico, providing training and support. Convoy of Hope, a faith-based nonprofit that feeds children, responds to disasters, and runs community outreach, is another partner the congregation supports.
Care and Helping Hands
Care is treated as a core function of the church. Care Pastor Michael Bauschka meets one-on-one with people who have prayer or care needs, and a long set of community resources for crisis, abuse, mental health, addiction, parenting, and family support is available, including a 211 call line for emergencies, hotlines for domestic violence and suicide prevention, and local Tucson organizations like Emerge, the Haven, and CODAC.
Helping Hands is the church's volunteer care network. Members use their gifts and time to meet short-term needs for other members of the church, like meals after a hospital stay, rides to appointments, or help with a household project. People who need help can submit a request, and people who want to serve can sign up as volunteers. The Care Pastor and a team of Helping Hands leaders coordinate the matches.
Beliefs and Core Values
Alive Church holds to seven essential beliefs. God is one living and true God, eternally existing in three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ is God's only Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died on the cross, was resurrected, and ascended into heaven, and is the only way to heaven. The Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, empowers followers for ministry, dwells within each believer at salvation, and is the abiding Helper, Teacher, and Guide, with all biblical gifts of the Spirit in exercise today. The entire Bible is the inspired Word of God, without error. Salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, whose blood shed on the cross is the sole basis for the forgiveness of sin and the gift of eternal life. The Church is the body of Christ, with Jesus as the head, and its members are those who have trusted in Christ. Baptism is to be administered by immersion, and the Lord's Supper is shared as a sign of unity, love, and reflection on Christ's death and resurrection.
Five core values shape the culture of the church. Biblical Authority means the church lives under and surrenders to the authority of God's Word. Gather Purposefully means a consistent rhythm of worship, inspiration, and motivation with an emphasis on life transformation. Connect Deeply means pursuing a life in community that grows a relationship with Jesus and others. Serve Selflessly means using God-given gifts, talents, and passions to serve the ministry and mission of the church. Give Generously means living a lifestyle of generosity in which biblical financial stewardship is an act of worship. Influence Daily means intentionally building relationships with people in everyday circles of influence while modeling a life centered on following Jesus.
Pastors, Staff, and Elders
Dr. Jeffrey Allen Love is the Lead Pastor. His fingerprints are on much of the discipleship language and Bible teaching at the church. Joel Hime serves as Teaching Pastor and oversees the small groups ministry. Jason Marsden serves as Associate Pastor and leads the Life Transformation discipleship plan and the Discover Alive class. Brad Wetherbee is Worship Pastor, and Kristi Love is Worship Experience Director. Kyle Hammond is Next Gen Pastor and oversees Alive Youth. Michael Bauschka serves as Kids Pastor and as the Care Pastor for prayer and care needs.
Nicky Love and V'Eanna Marsden serve as Directors alongside the pastors, helping lead ministry teams across the church.
The leadership team includes a group of elders and overseers. Overseers are Janet Golden, Justin Smith, Sharon Iuliano, and Regina Bennett. Elders are Josh Goossen, Jerry Fitz, Scott Ekstrom, Mack Norris, and Ken Ballenger. The elders and overseers shepherd the congregation alongside the pastoral staff.
Discover Alive and Next Steps
For people who want a more intentional introduction, Discover Alive is the church's newcomers class. The class covers the history, core values, and the connections that make up the church community. It runs during a regular weekend service, so attendees experience a service while learning the basics of who Alive Church is. Pastor Jason Marsden oversees Discover Alive and is the contact for anyone who wants to sign up.
Other next steps on the church's pathway include joining a serving team, getting baptized, joining a small group, signing up for the Life Transformation Bible plan, and starting the Helping Hands volunteer network. Each step has its own form.
Giving and the App
Tithing is taught as a biblical principle, and the church quotes Malachi 3:10 as its anchor text. Giving is split into four funds in addition to the general tithe. The Life Transformation fund pays for Bibles that are given away for free. The Outside Our Walls fund supports local and global mission partners. The Spaces and Places fund improves the Alive Church campus and the online experience. The One Voice fund supports the unified curriculum that other churches can use for free.
Gifts can be made online, through the Church Center app, or in person during a service. The app is available for iPhone and Android and is also the hub for connection cards, sign-ups, small groups, and event registration.
A Church on a Hill in the Sonoran Desert
Alive Church sits on the northwest edge of Tucson, where the city gives way to open desert and the foothills of the Tortolitas. The campus is a single location at 9662 N La Cholla Blvd, with three weekend services, kids and youth ministries running alongside them, and a network of small groups that meets in homes from Cortaro to Naranja. The teaching rotates around a unified One Voice curriculum and a free Life Transformation Bible that the church gives away by the box. A team of pastors, directors, elders, and overseers shepherds the congregation, and a steady stream of mission giving supports partners from Tucson to Panama to South Asia. For a first-time visitor, the doors are open on Saturday at 4:00 pm and Sunday at 9:30 and 11:00 am, the kids ministry is ready to receive children of every age, and the livestream is a click away for those who want to listen in from home.
